So then by your logic what is the point of handing out the MVP of the reg season if the recipient's team doesn't win the championship?

I believe there is a reason the records for reg season & post season are separate. Because they aren't one in the same. Would it have been nice if they had done both? Of course. But I think the standard of them winning both or risking the reg season record be for not is because MJ & the Bulls managed to do both.

But I just don't think it's fair to say the reg season means nothing because like it or not that is a record in the record books- and there's no asterisk beside it because they didn't win the title.

The ultimate goal is to win a title. We all eviscerated Lebron for the very same thing back in the day - had a team with the best record during the regular season, then failed to win a championship team. When you have title expectations, teams aren't happy with just winning the Finals; they want to win it all. The 2011 Heat, 2012 Thunder, 2013 Spurs, 2014 Heat, and 2016 Warriors will all see their season as a failure. I don't include the 2015 Cavs because at that point, missing 2 of their 3 stars in the Finals let you know how that was going to go.

And yes, people compare the '16 Warriors and '96 Bulls now and show that the Bulls won the title as the difference between the two teams. The Bulls proved that their dominance in the regular season wasn't a fluke. The Dubs didn't.

Again, look at the NFL and particularly the '07 Patriots. Go ask Tom Brady if that season was a success. I'd bet a stack he'd say hell no.

They cuffed his ass.

It's now official: Knicks more dysfunctional than the Kings and Clippers.

Hey, @Vyle203 how do you view the Pats '07 season? Success or nah?
It was a very "special" season to witness as a fan. Lot of great moments. I can't call it a success though. That team was the definition of Championship or bust. They busted. There are a lot of folks around New England who disagree with me, but that's my take.

Yeah I remember that season. It was special to watch, if you were a Pats fan. I was in my final year of the Marine Corps at that time. I had a few buddies in my unit that were Pats fans. To this day, they said they would've taken a 15-1/14-2 record during the regular season and taken the Super Bowl instead. Their response is what's the point? Having an undefeated regular season means dick when you don't win the championship.

Exactly. All 16-0 did was make the SB loss all the more devastating.

I agree winning the title is the ultimate goal- but when records are set along the way you can't just say those are meaningless because they weren't exclamated with a title.

I never said the players would categorize last season as a success- what I said is setting the record is still an accomplishment in it's own right. And the proof is the record books that are kept.
