And he was only expected to make 800K.

So they, in essence, OVER PAID a guy who cant play defense where we need him to play defense, and offer AT BEST a passable pinch-hitting bat.

I am very appreciative of what he did in the NLDS and NLCS. I fully believe we not have the trophy if not for him. But he is a dumpster-dive level player, in all reality. Why lock up a 40-spot with him while ALSO giving him over-expected money?

I am all about loyalty and the I like that the Giants like to pay "their guys". But then they lose out on other players because they cant afford them. I am not a huge fan of Fitz, but his take on the Timmeh contract was pretty much spot-on. Pay him what you like, but don't come back and them say you cant get player X because of salary concerns. Paying Timmeh 18M when he would have, AT BEST gotten about 11M on the open market made no sense.

He is a guy though who seems to be able to come in cold off the bench and get a hit. Those guys are hard to find. I didn't expect him back at all though.

He'd be a reserve OF mostly. LH hitter off the bench with some pop.
Unless they plan to use Posey at a different position.

Actually, LESS than Ishi money.

I am good with this signing. Apparently, Hacktor still has an option, so he and Susac and exchange spots between SF and Sacto throughout the year. I am VERY good with that plan.

Bring up Hector every 5th day to catch Timmeh. Only half kidding.

Posey in LF?

How does a backup 1B affect putting Posey at third?

Really? Are you THAT resistant to the idea?

How about: Now that they have a legit backup at 1B FOR Belt, they can use Posey somewhere else?

I'm no more resistant than you are in love with it. Difference is all evidence points to it not happening, all you got is poker analogies.

Posey is not the backup 1B, Posey plays 1B because we need his bat and he can't catch every day. The real question is what to do with Belt those days...if we are as offensively challenged as we're looking, they might have to put him in left those days.

I'm actually not opposed to them trying it but if they don't wanna, it ain't gonna.

This is pretty much where I stand on it as well.

In my IGNORANT view, Posey would be a good option at 3B. But the organization has said NUMEROUS times that that will simply not happen. Evans even laughed from exacerbation when he answered the question on KNBR after Sandoval left.

You think they are bluffing in this regard, but I have no idea what benefit they could gain from putting themselves in that bad position of making everyone think they are in a position of weakness. If you can come up with a scenario where they can benefit from this smokescreen, I am all ears.

The org knows Posey, and they have completely taken the option off the table. Therefore, I have taken the option off the table.

At this rate, an overpay of $300K (or $100K) is pocket change for the org. Glad to have Ishi back in the fold.

And remember, because of our insane loyalty, we could have signed him for 5/$20 million. This is only a one year deal. I am more than OK with this. He can play LF (in a pinch), he can be a good 1B, he can PH.

Yeah, Melky or Rasmus. Melky preferred. Headley is almost a must, IMHO.

Wouldn't mind Scherzer, but I could see them waiting till July to check out how the existing starters are doing.

I heard (no link) that some team has offered Headley 4/$65 million. That is waaaaaaay too rich for what he brings to the table, methinks.

Chase Headley Rumors: Thursday ? MLB Trade Rumors

Is it too rich?

Chase Headley Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com

Total WAR:

2014: 3.7
2013: 4.0
2012: 6.0

Plus, they figured out a back problem he had last year, and was much better the second half.

At even $6mm/WAR, he's a bargain - better numbers than our last 3B.

I hope it's us that offered 4/65.

Then where would Posey play?

:boink:

I am going to start laughing if they don't sign Headley.

You all just better hope and pray then that Buster doesn't play third before 2015 is done.

???

You really think many of us care about being "right"?

Personally, I am just reading the tea-leafs. There is ZERO evidence that the Giants are considering Posey for 3B. Like I said, present a scenario where the bluff that makes the team look desperate helps the team, and I am all-in. Until then, I believe what they say.

You misread most of us. I'd be all in favor of it if he can do it. I just happen to believe pretty strongly that:
1. The team and Buster don't WANT TO do it
2. Buster probably can't adequately field the position

I may be totally wrong on both, and if so great it does solve some problems. But I think I'm right on 2, and 1 for sure.
