I wonder what kind of value either of them have right now. Sanchez has some pretty severe question marks surrounding his health 9will he ever play again?) and EA had leg issues last year (they may have been bogus issues, though, to give 40-man flexibility).

I am not sure we can get anyone better than a Perez-type player for them at this point.

It will be something to lookout for.

I don't know much about this guy other than he is a SS.

Why dump big $$ on a SS when we have a passable + SS already, and rather large holes at both LF and 3B?

It doesn't pass the initial sniff test for me.

If he turns out to be the player scouts believe he can be, he easily replaces Crawford.

If that does happen and he is a big bat in the lineup. Then the lineup hole at LF/3B isn't as big

Torii Hunter. He's a free agent. Could play left field while they work on something permanent..

Move Crawford to 3B.
Move Posey go 1B.
Move Belt to LF.

Easy peasy.

I have not seen him play, but I have heard that his play has taken a complete nose dive recently. His numbers in '14 look good, though. Further, his splits look VERY good in '14. Are his numbers hollow?

He is 39, so that is a concern. But if he is intended only as a bridge to Carbonell or Williamson, than I am OK with his age.

I would not be against a 1 yr deal for 6 mil, but would he accept that?

Craw's offense was acceptable at SS. Would it be at 3B? Does he have the quick reflexes for 3B? SS is more of a positioning and flow position where-as 3B is a reflex position. Not saying he can't do it, just that I do not know if he can do it.

Why mess with a middle infield that showed some flash and will only get better with time?

IF Moncada is in fact a couple years away, then it makes more sense, and Craw will either age too much to remain at SS (he is a pretty big guy) or improves to the point where he starts to get expensive.

However, if Moncada is a few years away, that just adds more and more variables to him. Not only is he international (questionable competition and questionable age), but he is just a prospect. I wouldn't imaging a team giving him more than a 10M bonus (Posey, IIRC, got about 6.4M).

I am OK with both the Santana and Rios proposals.

For Panda, I am just TERRIFIED at a contract longer than 4 years (and I am not thrilled with 4 years). He simply does not have the self-motivation to keep his conditioning in check when he is comfortable. A 3-year deal will keep his comeuppance close enough that he will keep himself in check. A 4-year deal gets into the area where it is far away, but MAYBE he can do it. A 5-year deal? "Fuck it, I am set. Let's PARTY!!"

Of course, all of this comes with the caveat that Sabey Sabes knows Panda better than I do, and he knows all the variables better than I. So I will be OK with whatever they decide.

I just don't see SabeySabes letting one of our own get away. Heck, he overpaid Timmah to stay...

I don't know; probably pretty easy to hit in the middle of that Tiger lineup with all the guys around him but he looked good in the field and at the plate in the few games I saw him. Didn't he hit a home run off Bumgarner in that game in Detroit?
He'd have to know he wasn't going to be here long and accept that. The team will be younger next year so a solid veteran might help with those guys.

Can probably rule him out completely.

His political/religious reliefs Torii Hunter Doubles Down On His Anti-Gay Beliefs are probably something ownership and FO wants to avoid

Of all things, I think "veteran presence" is one thing the Giants do not need to worry about.

The Giants will be a young team next year. I don't think any position player of any significance is over 30 years old. Other than Pence and Blanco I don't think there is any position player period who is over 30. One of the things I like about this team and a huge change from the Bonds years

But EVERYONE has a ring. They all know how to win. No clubhouse in the majors can compete with that.

Do you really think ANYONE can come into THIS clubhouse be a leader?

I am not saying that they can completely ignore character. Quite the contrary. But signing someone for the express purpose of being a clubhouse leader is completely un-needed.

No need for a Randy Johnson on this team.

On balance, less than I expected. Certainly Crawford, Belt, and Petit are bargains at those salaries, IMHO. But MLBTR is just guessing, too.

3.5M for a stud #4 is a bargain. Blanco will be back. Especially when we have so many holes to fill in the OF as it is.

I'm Shatner!

No, I'm just sort of pessimistic about 2015...shouldn't we all be? It's not an even year, and we've discussed the team's holes over and over.

Of course they could do great, and that's how I'm rooting, and if they are contending in July I won't be calling for a fire sale. But sheesh, don't fall into the trap of conflating any pessimism as shatting. We've been here long enough to know the difference.

Don't worry, somebody will. :suds:
