Gary Bettman: We have a trade to announce (fans boo) - I think you're going to want to hear this. The Leafs trade Tyler Bozak to the Buffalo Sabres for the 2nd overall pick in the 2015 entry draft. Toronto, you're on the clock.

Dont go getting my hopes up.

Isn't someone like Artem Anisimov possibly on the block? Maybe Columbus could swap him and the 8th overall for the Flyers 7th? Maybe the Flyers would have to add something?

Although BBB makes a good point that Carolina probably has the most ammo to make a deal - lot of uncertainty with those players and someone has to be getting moved soon enough

Anisimov has been on and off the block, but he played super strong down the stretch, and I think he has played himself into the team's good graces. For a long time the talk was "Move Anisimov, Rychel's ready". Now it's all "Move Rychel." Given the choice between the two, I keep Arty every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

We'll see.

I'm still not seeing the upside for Jersey - Merrill is one of the more promising young d-men in the league and has 2 years NHL experience already. Rychel is a prospect, a highly-rated one but still. If they're looking to move Merrill for offensive help, shit he could even be a building block for someone like Kessel or O'Reilly. And combine that with the potential that someone picked 6th in this draft could be a world-beater compared to even two picks lower and I think Columbus would have to throw in something else to make Shero even consider it.

Or Columbus asks (or NJ counters) for a different D man...

Just a rumored offer at this point. And a first one at that, they can swap Merril with practically anyone and it could work. I guess it all comes down to how the 3 picks after McDavid and Eiche shake outl. If the Devs can still get their guy at 8 and add another asset, I think they probably think about it. Severson, Larsson, or one of the kids like Scarlett or Santini.

@DarrenDreger: Talbot trade watch continues. Expect he gets traded this week. Buf, Edmtn, SJ and Dallas in the mix. Great contract requires high return.

Talbot's got good numbers, but I'm still not giving up a first rounder for him unless it's 20th overall or later.

I guess that's the decision that Chiapet has to make, do you swing a deal for Talbot or do you select Samsonov with the 16th overall pick (I think he will still be available).

I doubt anyone drafts a RUS goalie before 16. Unless they are named Tretiak.

Lots of talk today about PIT and Kessel. Weird because the Pens don't have their first rounder nor the space to take Kessel's cap hit meaning the Leafs would have to eat a significant portion meaning they'd probably want at least 2 first rounders meaning there is no chance this is happening.

Jeff Mareks 2015 NHL Mock Draft - Sportsnet.ca

Marek's one of the few guys I like at SN so he gets to rock out with his mock out.

Mark Madden?

His writing process seems to be;
1) Who is the best player rumoured to be moving
2) I love pittburgh
3) Everyone wants to play with Crosby
4) That guy is totally begging to come here.

Dave Molinari in the Gazette, but someone on TSN mentioned it as well this morning too. Maybe it was in deference to him.

Take Samsonov with the 16th pick and shoot for a Yakupov/Lehner deal

Oilers need to be careful, yes there's nothing wrong with offer sheets, but you have to know that offer sheets have a funny way of biting you in the butt.

/How many NHL teams will send in offer sheets for McJesus?

Hamilton still has to, you know, sign the offer sheet. Not sure "internal discussions" mean much unless they've been in touch with the player. In this case that would be called tampering.

We all OK with them forfeiting their 1st round pick this year as punishment?? OK, done!!

Don't you think he'll be locked up (under contract, not in jail) before that even has a chance to happen? I don't see them trying to lowball him or screw around.

Quite likely but remember, this is the Oilers we are talking about...

Oil has to be careful. Is Dougie worth four lottery picks?
