Lester to the Cardinals would be pretty shocking, actually, with Carlos Martinez looming as a potential future starter.

But then the Cards have some holes in the bullpen so who knows

Id like to see Pablo stay in SF for a variety of reasons. He has been a beast for them and a fat contract would def tie them down a bit.

My predictions for the Cardinals are that they will re-sign Neshek. I think the notion is that someone will overpay him but I dont think anyone will give him a ridiculous contract or anything and I think the Cardinals value him and got a heck of a deal last year so the overpay might not sting much if they can continue the production.

They also need a big, dumb right handed bat and I dont see them spending a lot of money. Ironically I could see Michael Morse being a good pickup and they could work around the defensive issues.

I am very nervous abut Panda. I think ANY 4+ year contract, regardless of money, will be a bad deal. His problem is motivation. If he is too comfortable, he will balloon, and his D and bat will suffer.

At the same time, I think any 3- year contract, almost regardless of money, will be a GREAT deal. He will still have the motivation of his career past the 3 years, so he will stay focused.

Boston at this moment has a budget of $53,000,000 to spend each year for the next 4 years signing
free agents. Ben Cherington said in an interview yesterday that ownership could go a bit higher for the right players. He hinted that there are already trades being discussed.

I think any sane team wouldnt want to go all in on this free agency period. The big spenders will be out in full force and everything will be an overpay

Orioles declined the $5M option on Nick Hundley but want to re-sign him.

The Cards really need a power hitter. I couldn't believe they let Beltran go without getting another big bat in the lineup. I think Matt Adams has potential, but their run production really fell off last year. Yoenis Cespedes might be a nice fit for the Cards.

All I know is whatever pitcher Arizona signs will be overpaid and probably end up sucking as soon as he arrives. Then once we trade him he'll go back to being his old self. Story of our franchise the last few years.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately with this crop of free agents) the Mets likely won't be very involved in signing players. They've already stated they're looking for a similar payroll next year which means if the Mets want an impact player it will have to be via trade.
