The Orioles announced that they have re-acquired outfielder L.J. Hoes in a trade with the Astros and designated first baseman Andy Wilkins for assignment in order to clear room on the 40-man roster.

The Orioles have made a “competitive” bid for free agent reliever Darren O’Day, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports. Baltimore appears to be one of the final teams under consideration for the veteran, though numerous others — the Nationals, Braves, Dodgers, and perhaps more — could still be involved, per the report.

The Orioles are also “in the mix” for Trumbo, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Presumably, he could fill some of the power void left by departing free agents Chris Davis and Steve Pearce, though of course Baltimore is still said to be pursuing a return with the former.

Wonder if going after him means they know that the chances of bringing Davis back are not in our favor.

Also just saw that Boston signed David Price to a 7 year/$217 million dollar deal. That's insane. I know the guy is a damn good pitcher but for an average of $31 million a season???

O's are getting someone else too.

10:34pm: Dutton now reports that the second player headed to Baltimore in the deal is believed to be on Seattle’s 40-man roster. This is only speculation, but either Steve Baron or Jesus Sucre would replenish some of the depth Baltimore is losing by dealing Clevenger, and both have minor league options remaining.

7:42pm: A second player is indeed going to Baltimore, tweets MLB.com’s Greg Johns.

  • Righty Vance Worley has signed on with the Orioles for $2.6MM, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets. That falls just $100K shy of his projected value as a first-year-eligible player. Baltimore added Worley earlier in the winter from the Pirates and figures to utilize him in a swingman capacity.

  • The Orioles announced that they’ve agreed to terms with outfielder Nolan Reimold on a one-year deal, thus avoiding arbitration. Rich Dubroff of CSNMidAtlantic.com reports that Reimold will land a $1.3MM salary (Twitter link). He cleared MLBTR’s projection by $400K.

the Orioles will non-tender infielder Paul Janish, tweets Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com. The defensively gifted journeyman was projected to earn a modest $600K in arbitration next season.

  • Outfielder David Lough has also been non-tendered by the Orioles, the club announced. Lough hit just .201/.241/.313 with the Orioles in 144 plate appearances this season but has a reputation as a good defensive outfielder in the corners and traditionally hit righties well prior to this season.

Actually, I think the longer it goes, the better for us. Sounds like none of the big market teams are overwhelming Davis with huge offers, which gives us a chance.

getting busted for performance enhancers plays to our favor.......In Davis' case big money means big risks in the eyes of other teams......where did Chen go?

And with Oday staying that might help in keeping Davis as well....comments?!
