Yep. 1 year $7-8M or 2 $15M is where I would be at for him and his 20 games per year starts.

Agreed... 10 mill for 3 years is not too smart of a move imo... We already have quite a few over priced players on the team, we can't add another one...

Left-hander James Paxton, who opened the season as the Mariners‘ No. 2 starter but spent more than three months on the DL with a tendon injury in his finger, is hoping to make seven or eight starts in the Arizona Fall League, writes Johns in a second column. Paxton also plans on heading to winter ball in Puerto Rico to make up for some of the lost innings in 2015. The southpaw spoke to Johns about the importance of finding a way to stay healthy, though he did feel there’s a bit of randomness to his finger issue, as opposed to a 2014 lat injury that was more preventable. Paxton also spoke about how he personally felt the team’s acquisition of J.A. Happ last offseason helped him grow, as Happ served as a veteran left-handed mentor to help him through some difficult times this season.

Paxton def has some Guti in him. Missed most of the year with a tendon injury?

He has been Erik Bedard 2.0. Most of his career he has been hurt. I don't think he has ever made it through a full season at any level. Sad because he has the talent.

Here is a guy I would take a one year flyer on:

Mark Buehrle said Thursday that he will consider playing next season.

The assumption was that Buehrle was going to retire after starting the regular season finale on short rest. However, the veteran left-hander said he'll consider returning for a 17th big league season if he can find a guaranteed contract. Buehrle, who will turn 37 next March, shouldn't have trouble getting a guaranteed deal after posting a 3.81 ERA over 32 starts for the Blue Jays this season. He did battle a shoulder issue at times in 2015 but said it's something he's had to deal with throughout his career.

Worth considering. Curious what kind of money he is looking for especially coming off a $20 mil season.

True. I was thinking a 1 year, $7-8M deal. He probably wouldn't take it, but worth trying.

Saw that Cody Martin got claimed by the M's I think I read somewhere that he is a Gonzaga kid.

He is. Has good MiLB stats, but got rocked in majors.

The Diamondbacks are interviewing pitching coach candidates, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic writes. Bullpen coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. was expected to be in the mix, but he wants to be closer to his father (who lives in Washington State) as he deals with cancer. The Diamondbacks now believe Stottlemyre is likely to take a position with the Mariners, who have requested permission to interview him. The Diamondbacks say they could consider up to six internal candidates and have requested permission to speak with others outside the organization.

Damn, didn't know he had cancer. He use to put on pitching clinics all the time up here. Great dude who was great as teaching a kid with passion for the sport.

  • The Mariners have promoted Tom Allison to head of both professional and amateur scouting, tweets John Manuel of Baseball America. Allison had previously served as Seattle’s head of pro scouting so the promotion is an expansion of duties. Per Manuel, Allison had a strong run as an amateur scout with the Diamondbacks from 2007 through 2010. He also worked with the Mets and Brewers in a scouting capacity from 1996 through 2006.
