He is still productive and 34 years old. And he is the kind of guy who is fueled by those who doubt him. If we sign him He will show Carolina they made a mistake. Pound for pound one of the toughest guys on offense.

Agree. He fits the mold of the "win the North now" war cry the Lions are selling us right now. Steve Smith is the perfect fit for a team trying to win a championship in the next 1-3 years.

I might agree with a 2 year deal or something like that. I also thought he had some injury things going on too. I would still expect the Lions to draft a rookie WR though.

Agree. Would have to be a 1 or 2 year deal. He is older and he is coming off some minor injuries.

I'm sure the Lions will draft a rookie. Probably earlier than later.

i say we find a way to go out and get DJax. He's on the trade block now. I know our cap situation sucks, but if we can restructure some contracts and make it work, we can focus on Defense for the whole draft.

As much fun as it would be to see DeSean Jackson on the Lions. I don't think it would be fiscally possible to have almost 40 million dollars tied up in 3 WRs and almost 50% of our salary cap tied to QB and WR positions.

It would be very entertaining to watch though.

So is anyone else noticing that the board seems to be losing interest in these threads once they get merged?

How many times are we going to have to go through this one? I thought we settled this with that whole big two week blow-out?

It could be the merging of threads but I personally believe it has to do with several posters here that seem intent on belittling and bullying anyone and everyone that disagrees with them. Dont take this the wrong way...Im just answering your question, my answer is not directed toward you, its a response in general, because I think some people have had enough of it. I usually tend to ignore inappropriate responses but sometimes I am not able to maintain that level of self control and neither are others. I thought in particular that lionstop was completely bullied for his thoughts. I dont get why posters arent able to be civil while disagreeing with each other.

Yep- that sounds just about dead-on. I think more of us agree with LionStop than disagree with him, we're just not the vocal minority who speaks up the loudest.

Perhaps I should have posted more when I was in agreement with him to help offset the less-than-constructive responses... As it stands I think he's got a great sense of how things are unfolding with that #10 pick. I've seen him championing Evans and Gilbert, and I'd say that one of those two has to be the favorite as things stand right now, imo.

I'm sure I'm probably guilty of annoying the other posters the last couple weeks what with the e-fights with Swarm and TrustMe, but beyond those two I'm pretty good at disagreeing with other posters without it getting out of hand (for the most part, anyhow...).

I don't think it is all on the recent arguments, I know that when I am part of a discussion in a thread and it gets merged I don't tend to go back to it. I don't want to dig into all the unrelated material to find the one post that was a reply to mine.

I think the only reason these threads get clicked on is because they are sticky so always on top.

Once again I resemble that remark. It must be said that people who disagree with me are universally stupid, though.

I just don't get what thread merging is supposed to accomplish except to make past conversation flow impossible to understand.

This. I couldn't figure out a way to articulate it that well, but that's exactly how I feel. Imo, merging each related thread into one big one destroy's the depth and quality of conversation- there's not time to get into good discussions because if you're away from the board for a day the discussion has moved on.

What's so bad about just leaving up the threads that people take the time to start?

I'm also curious what Hammer's take is? As the admin it seems like he'd want to facilitate a board that generates the most activity as possible, and it's clear that the board member who has been put in charge of this does not have a good handle on the pulse of this board. Threads got merged, the conversations died off. We got into a huge blow-out, merging power was removed, board perked back up. Merging power was re-instated, board instantly dies off again.

I don't want to start another e-brawl, but I do want to unequivocally say that I do not care for one of the more inflammatory board members being given unilateral ability to mess with the posts. Perhaps I'm alone on that, but I suspect not...

Who's the mod on this board? Is it something or someone the regular posters would want? Of we are going to have one we need someone who's not in one of these e gangs.

This too.

Merging the thread sucks and is killing the board, please stop.

And for the admins consideration- more "clicks" generates more add revenue, I'd assume (although I'm sure I'm probably over-simplifying that) right? If that's the case then it'd be in 'SportsHoopla's best interest on this particular board to not have someone merging our threads. Perhaps fans on other boards like the treads merged and it works well for them, which is fine and all, but I think it's pretty obvious that it's the opposite here.

Again- not trying to re-start a fight, but the board ran much better before RobBase had any sort of authority/mod powers/etc...

If you want to merge threads, why not just have one big thread where we talk about everything. We as posters makes specific threads for topics/players/personnel or whatever the thread is about to talk about those specific topics/players/personnel. That thread is reserved for that topic. Its not like we have a limited space or anything.

Since this is supposed to be a dedicated WR FA thread (for whatever reason) I'll toss one out there that's actually on topic:

We really dropped the ball by not snagging Jerome Simpson in FA before he re-upped with the Vikings.

He's an absolute burner with plus size and insane athleticism. He also put up pretty decent numbers in a crappy Minnesota passing attack.

Not sure what he signed for, but I'll guarnante it was cheap. Getting him in for the same cost as a Kris Durham or Kevin Ogletree (probably a bit more than Ogleetree, I suppose) would have been a very good lost-cost upgrade to our WR corps...

Louis Murphy is an intriguing option who is still out there. Good size and speed. Nothing special about him, but he's been mildly productive in middling offenses, so he might be able to offer something as a 4th or 5th WR in a good passing attack. He'd come cheap for sure...

I'd also like to see us take a flyer on Kyle Williams on a vet minimum deal. I wouldn't expect him to make the team, but he was an up-and-coming slot WR/Return Specialist a couple of years ago before a nasty knee injury. Imo he wouldn't be a terrible guy to carry through camp, teach the offense and playbook and such, and then hope he's still available later in the season if our slot guys are injured.

The NFL doesn't really have a farm system, but having a 90 man offseason roster makes it possible to roll the dice on guys like him and not lose out on anything if he busts out with us...

Look...the term 'moderator' implies, 'moderate'.
