This isn't 1845. It is 2014, and NL baseball is boring to watch because of the bull pen "specialists" and multiple pen changes in an inning. Yes that's excruciatingly awful. The way Peavy approached hitting last night was also awful. It's one of the things the league would like to speed up going forward, because of how long games last because of it.

I fully understand this isn't 1845 and it's 2014. Great pickup.

The speeding up of the game is a concern. However, it is not anywhere close to being a NL problem alone. All the games are taking damn near 3 hours. Actually think it's 2 hours and 54 minutes to be exact.

Personally I like the more strategic approach to NL ball over AL ball. And I haven't always thought this. Not since 1845 for sure.

I was totally in favor of the DH when the AL embarrassed it. But after all these years I've come back to really enjoying the game without it. Not asking anyone else too. I also know it's not going away and fully expect it to become the rule of both leagues sooner than later.

Agreed to disagree/

Asking pitchers to hit in modern baseball is like asking the punter to play QB in the NFL. No thank you. I wanna see dominating pitchers with nasty hooks, sliders, and sinkers into the late innings. When NL managers pinch hit for a pitcher to try and squeeze an extra run it kills me a little... I don't want to see pitchers strike out awkwardly and wear jackets running the bases if they happen to get lucky enough to get on base.

Nothing to do with nothing. But on Around-the-Horn today the four panelist - which included Dallas' own Tim Cowlishaw - all supported the guy in the Marlins jersey in KC.

Apparently this guy is a huge Marlin fan, has been a season ticket holder for 21 years, is behaving himself and Woody Page laughing said, "if the Marlins would give him something to cheer for he wouldn't be in KC."

What difference did he or his jersey make anyway? Fan of the game and money to buy a ticket. OK by me.:ohwell:

The KC ownership said they have no problem. So they agree with ya.

He's not causing problems. Just that orange jersey to hard to ignore.

Everything you said is true.

But I would caution you to note that Kershaw and Greinke both are on record as saying they love to hit and consider it a big part of being in the NL. And both are pretty good hitters. Hell, Bob Gibson use to pinch hit for the Cards. For whatever that's worth.

And I think the vast majority of posters here would agree with ya about pitchers hitting.

I don't due to the strategy match-ups it creates for managers, especially later in the game.

Differing opinions makes the world go round.

I agree about pitchers hitting b/c I am a AL fan. Many NL fans don't agree. That's what they watch and like. The opinion of some do not represent what others prefer.

You sticking with the Giants in 6?

The biggest problem I see for them is they've now got two BP guys hurt, and that could really be a problem.

But I wouldn't bet $10 they still won't win it. :yahoo:

Nice way to start....and I like the Royals lineup for this game.

Also, loved Harold Reynolds description, "high ball, up."

Cain getting ump screwed

He got screwed on two pitches and that shouldn't happen, especially in the WS.

Why the hell wouldn't you ask for help on that check swing?

But the Royals kept their composure and got on top early.
