I heard. He was sitting at 94-95 consistently too.

What a find he could be, was out part of last year w a back injury but had decent numbers. Only like 45 k's in 60 something innings but only 14 walks and he's a big guy like 6/4-5

What I like to see, although its been raining here all day, is that its 630 and still light outside. Bring on the baseball

I think Hoying and Peguero have a good chance at making this team as our back up COF and CFers. They both bat LH though. Peguero has been known to tear up ST pitching though and then shit his pants when the season starts.

This may be what Bannister was hoping for. He said there could be a nice find coming or something to that effect.

Box score of the Day: 2-2, 10-inning tie includes 9-pitcher no-hitter

Spring training exhibition games are in full swing and given the way these things go, we're bound to see some funkiness. Exhibit A: The Astros and Braves tied, 2-2, in 10 innings while the Braves had nine pitchers combine for a no-hitter.

Yep.

Cody Martin started things off with two innings for the Braves and was followed by Jim Johnson, Josh Outman, Brandon Cunniff, Ian Thomas, Mauricio Cabrera, Lucas Sims and Justin Jackson. The "Johnny Wholestaff" final line: 10 IP, 0 H, 2 ER, 9 BB, 9 K.

Here's the blow-by-blow of the Astros getting two runs on the board:

No errors, either. Rather impressive work.

Viva la spring!

Yeah Peguero has been good vs Milb pitching but its never transferred to the BIGS. He has been burning up the base paths with steal attempts it appears, swiped a bag today

I forgot about Peguero. One of these could be a good choice as backup COFers since it would add a LH bat and give us options.

I don't know that he had 3. It was a 2 run HR. Odor doubled and EA singled him in. Then Prince hit the HR. Those gamecasts get shit wrong sometimes. I was listening to it on the radio. Unless he got one later.

He did have 3 RBIs and you are right it was a 2 run homer. Not sure how the other RBI came about.

Man, that is awesome. How nice would it be to have him and Detwiler really step it up.

There is absolutely no way to replace Darvish, but if we have some guys step up, maybe... just maybe we can be in the hunt for a wild card spot.

I think the end of this season will be exciting no matter what. Obviously I would like us to be in the hunt, but if we aren't it should be fun to see the next batch of prospects come up. The future looks bright.

Just remember, we didn't start the 2010 season with an ace either. Frankly, our rotation then may have been worse than it is going into this season.

As I recall in 2011 our 'ace' was CJ Wilson. We seemed to do OK then as well.

Rangers' Mitch Moreland homers in spring debut

Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland went 1 for 3 with a homerun in Texas' 6-4 win over the Cubs Sunday. It was Moreland's first game after undergoing ankle surgery four months ago.

"I've been counting down the days to get out there," said Moreland, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I wanted to just have fun and I did. It was a great way to start the spring."

Manager Jeff Bannister liked Moreland's approach at the plate.

"Those were good at-bats for his confidence. Even when he didn't homer, he stayed back on the ball," Bannister said.

Good start

Saw in the Ranger-Cleveland game where Andrus is 2-3 and the hit by Fielder was a Homer and he has 3 RBIs. But Eickhoff is not doing so well and the bases are loaded against him. Just following on GameDay. Hoying has 4 RBIs this spring. Still never understood why he was not called up at the end of last year.

I love it when guys like Hoying just keep getting the job done even as no one expects anything out of them. There is a little bit of that attitude towards Claudio as well. Some of the national "experts" had a little of that feeling towards Holland a few years ago. Rua also fits into that category. I really pull for those guys.
