1. So who is everyone's pick for Rangers MVP this season on both offense and defense?
2. Who do you think will win the #5 starter job?
3. Who do you think will have the biggest surprise season?

Here my go at it:
1. Going with pretty safe picks- Fielder and Darvish- Darvish is a little more obvious but I think Fielder will put up an amazing season with Choo and Andrus getting on base for him and distracting pitchers with their speed and then of course Beltre protecting him.
2. I'll take a risk on this one... I'm going with Ross. Might be a big risk too I think we need LHP releif.
3. Profar- I think he shows us why he was a #1 ranked prospect this season.

1. Prince/Darvish -- I really have no idea

2. Ogando -- I think the rotation out of camp is going to be ... Darvish/Perez/Tepesch/Harrison/Ogando. Perez down the stretch last fall was TEX most reliable starter and with Harrison just getting back from a year off Perez is likely to have passed him on the rotation for the time being. Tepesch won the #5 job against all comers last year ... and ought to believe that he's competing for a shot at #4 ... not #5. In the long run Tepesch has more top end than Ogando and most likely assuming everybody is pitching well when Holland comes back most likely Ogando is the one moved to the bullpen. Because Wash is a fanatic about splitting up LHP ... that's why I put Tepesch in the third spot in the rotation ... although he's probably truly a #4. And that's why I say Ogando is #5 ..

3. Moreland --picking someone to have a surprise season you have to almost be thinking about someone who has broken out or is over producing beyond expectation. I think the general expectation for Profar is high so if he does well that would be expected. Leaves Moreland, Soto and whoever is on the bench to be surprises. I pick Moreland to break out and move to the fifth spot in the batting order by June 1.

1. Offense - Choo. (for all aspects). Defense - Beltre. Pitching - Darvish.
2. #5 - Lewis. (Hanson in AAA waiting for an opportunity)
3. Surprise - Martin. (Leonys).

Sidenote - should really be a new thread topic IMO. Maybe Fordman/mod can combine all these into a new thread.

Not sure it would be a good thing for the leadoff hitter to be your offensive MVP. What does that say about what didn't happen behind him?

Nice original picks for 2 and 3 although, I had assumed Ogando will make the rotation- can totally see him at 5 though. You are likely right if Profar does something... it is sort of expected. Perhaps, I should have made 3 most likely to have breakout season. I can totally see that for Moreland too if he stays healthy.

Doesn't appear anyone has come to the rescue on changing your name. I've looked and played with it and I'll be damned if I'm gonna be of any assistance. Good luck.

Not really a problem. It could be for the best. I go by azrangerfan on a couple of other boards and I would like to change it to be the same here. No big deal though.

I can see your #3.

OT -- I don't see any reason to change your name. None of us care about names just the quality of the thinking which you clearly have.

Nice of you to say, but I'm sure others might disagree with that from time to time. lol

I'll hang with you on the answers to 1 & 3. But I'm going with Tepesch at #5, and I'm going out there with this: Ross will begin the season in AAA as a starter.

I like Tepesch at 5 also. I think last years experience should benefit him this year. I just don't see Ross back in AAA unless there's real concern coming out of ST with the starters. If Ross doesn't win a job as a starter I see him back in the pen setting up.

Last year Ross took one for the team by going back to the bullpen when there wasn't a strong LH RP presence and Ortiz and Kirkman were the only lefties that TEX had on its scope. Going into this season with Cotts the strong LH RP over Ross ... TEX would definitely benefit from putting Ross down in AAA to become "one of the ten". If there is a setup LH RP job ... it's going to go to Cotts not Ross.

IMO Ross value goes way up if he can become an effective starter. With 2/3 to 3/4 ML hitters being RH ... LHP have to dominate them just as much as they can LH hitters. Ross has shown an ability to do better against RH batters than LH (which he has to fix) but shows his ultimate value may be as an SP.

Put me down for: 1. Fielder 2. Tepesch 3. out on a limb with Soto. He should have a positive outlook after winning a starting job. If there is hope for Mitch, then there is hope for Soto.

Under the YIKES banner ... story posted today on the TEX website about Profar's shoulder tendinitis ...

Profar to open Spring Training with limits | texasrangers.com: News

"Profar enters camp as the leading candidate to be the Rangers' starting second baseman. But he still has to earn the job. The Rangers have options, including veterans Adam Rosales, Brent Lillibridge and Josh Wilson, and rookies Rougned Odor and Luis Sardinas.

"We have not brought anybody who is guaranteed to be on the club, but we've brought in a number of guys externally and internally," Daniels said, adding that Profar "has to put his head down and show what he can do. Hopefully he can do that, but he has to earn it."

Wow! Maybe Odor ... but Rosales?!! Yikes!

Not sure I like that messaging ... player has tendinitis ... and you are going to scare him that he might lose his job he's never had to a guy you might lose your job to eventually.

I read the article and I don't think it's anything to worry about. The only one that could take his job is Odor. My favorite part was the comment some idiot made.

if rosales or lillibridge is the second baseman this is going to be a lost season, best pitcher out , no center fielder, no Cruz to go with Beltre and Fielder bummer!!

I guess he's never heard of Yu, and doesn't know about Leony's and his arm. The guy is already ready to give up.

Not sure but I think the guy was a troll some time ago. Romeo mentioned him a few days ago. May not be the same person but sounds like it.

Jeter is retiring. This next year is going to be nauseating with the Jeter retirement tour. Imagine the universal love Adrian Beltre would have if he played 3rd base in NY his entire career. He would be a first ballot hall of famer and a multiple MVP winner. I love you Adrian. I hope he knows how much he is appreciated in Texas. I've never seen a guy become my favorite player so quickly.

Agree I didn't put that much stock in T.R.'s story ... should have said that at the time I posted it. What I found strange for JD to be saying ... the guy's limited and has to earn the job and that a few spares plus ODOR will be in the run for the spot.

If I am Profar I'm thinking ... Crap! Last year I couldn't get on the field because Kinsler and Andrus had the middle tied up ... then they move Kinsler and I am listed as the probable starter ... and then all of a sudden I got to beat off a bunch of guys ... including the guy the scribes have already projected to be the next 2d baseman after me!
