The guy lost his brother last year and that apparently had a lot to do with it. I think it's a combination of things. I'm not a fan of his delivery and it could be the reason he's lost velocity. I'm pretty sure he used to throw in the mid 90's, and is around 90 or a little below now.

I'd say it has more to do with his shoulder looking like ground hamburger meat.

Great, the guys sucks so bad the angels didn't want him, but we'll take him. :L

Nothing wrong with building up a stable of expendable arms to subject to starting while Holland is out

If he can eat any quality innings as a starter then I'm for it, he's at least worth a ST look

Looking at his numbers its pretty obvious he's been injured the last couple seasons, if he's healthy its a high reward low risk move

As long as he's not immediately awarded a 25 man spot.

Did we sign him to a minor league deal? I'm confused, I can't find any confirmation
I think his career is over, but if there is no risk... fine. I'm with those who say the shoulder is gone

Very sorry about his brother of course, I do remember when he left the Angels for quite awhile to return home.
and then injured again? I've forgotten now

He'll be a FA in 2018....That is unless he reaches his CY incentives and then I believe he can opt out in 2017. Someone else will have to help us both out on this clause in his contract though.

yeah, I was too lazy to look up the CY details, figured someone could churn that out quickly.

I'll look it up.

"Daniels said if Darvish wins the Cy Young and finishes in the “top three or four” of the balloting a second time in the five years, he can opt out of the sixth year of the contract. He can also get out of it if he finishes second in the balloting and then in the top three or four in two additional years."

We talked about it here last winter ... maybe wasn't covered on the ESPN board. As I remember it we thought that 4 for 56 was a bit rich for him. Especially the years.

The thing is ... if Cruz were signed then he's the every day DH leaving two LH bats in a row (Martin #9, Choo #1) and no other LH bats other than Profar SH. Without Mitch in the lineup there is no power LH bat either although Martin might become one. Having Cruz would move Rios down to #6 which would make many here happy. If we knew MM was going to have a year like CD did last year this would all be easy. But I am sure edgy with the idea of Cruz going to SEA.

Let me ask this ... why isn't SEA trying to resign Morales? Are they just playing with Cruz to keep him away from TEX long enough that TEX goes another route? ... and then they go sign Morales leaving Cruz out in the cold?

The LH bats thing is a good point too. I think JD was being honest after we signed Choo when he said we where out on Cruz. I sure am going to miss the guy and I would hate to see him go to the M's for both our sake and even for his own.

I have wondered the same thing about Morales… it seems like having a DH that can switch hit and fill in a 1B some would be valuable to a lot of teams and the M's still seem to have a need at DH. I think the interest in Cruz is not for DH though but rather for OF because otherwise giving up a pick really wouldn't make since. In fact Morales makes a lot more since for any team other than us as a DH. The reason I leave out us is we would have to give up a pick to sign him… when we could sign Cruz and not have to sacrifice that. Of course this assumes Cruz is willing to play DH… which I wouldn't count on.

The only way it might happen is if we put out a fairly large number for the one year.. Our lineup and bench would be much stronger, not to mention if everyone stays healthy, we'd have a nice trade chip at the deadline. It's no secret that Tampa likes Mitch. If Tampa is ever going to trade Price, it will be at the deadline if they are out of contention(unlikely but possible). Mitch, Profar, Ross and Luke Jackson might get that done, with Odor taking over at 2nd for the Rangers

I'm not sure if Odor is ready yet and though that might get Price I would be hesitant to trade more pitchers- our farm is thinning out more in that position. Also, all this would only be for about a season of Price as he will be a FA in 2016.

Listening to Hitzges this morning, and I believe he gave the stat of: Cruz hitting .239 for 46 (48) games at Safeco Field. He gave some rather under impressive OBP, power stats as well. I know they've move the fences in, but if I'm Nellie, I don't go there unless I can get 2 years with an 3rd year option. IMO, he'd be better off taking a one year deal with a team in hitter friendly atmosphere.

I meant it was BS because he was never offered 5/75.

Its seems like a lot of people are saying that this rumor has no truth to it… I guess it really was just a rumor but I really have no idea if it was true or not. I do think Cruz had his expectations higher than this though- which obviously is too high for his market. I also think given his history at Safeco… he wouldn't be that thrilled to play there.

What do people think of tommy hanson?
Hanson was the golden boy for the Braves a few years back...their top pitching prospect. He was actually effective for a few years, but injuries and inconsistency made him expendable. He's worth a shot, but my hopes are not high on him...

Oakland extended crisp for 2 years 22.75 mm. I hate him.

Arroyo signs with diamondbacks. Don't know the details though.
