Of the guys I like in the top 5 Dal Colle is the one I want because the Isles need a sniper on the wing. However, I'd be happy with any of Bennett, Reinhart, Ekblad, Dal Colle or Draisaitl. Ehlers & Ritchie are intriguing as well, but top 5 might be a bit high for them. I'd pass on Nylander.

I'm hoping Ehlers falls to 8. Although I suppose that won't matter after the Leafs trade the pick for the rights to Steve Ott.

With one more final release to go, Sam Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad, Michael Dal Colle, Sam Bennett and William Nylander are locked into their respective top 5 rankings for May. Robby Fabbri is the biggest mover, jumping 8 spots from #16 to #8 by impressively leading the Guelph Storm to the OHL Championship.

“Fabbri is an impact center, and anytime he has the puck inside the blue line, it's a scoring chance", comments ISS Hockey Director of Scouting Dennis MacInnis. “He showcased his growth as a player by scoring a bushel of important goals in the OHL playoffs, and he continues to draw lots of attention with his MVP award from the OHL playoffs.”

Julius Honka must have really dropped, last time I saw a projection of him it was around where the Flyers were picking, and now he's not even in the first round

Wheeling and dealing likely on NHL draft day

Some excerpts below:

"Some teams are going to be looking to move some salaries, and I just have a feeling there could be a lot of moves," Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill said.

Tallon said he isn't ruling out anything, including taking a player at No. 1, accepting a deal to move back in the draft or packaging his No. 1 and other assets in an effort to acquire a top player.

"When I look at my team, I would like to add a couple of top-notch veteran (defenders)," Tallon said.

"This draft does set up where I could make the statement that we may see more movement in the top end of the draft than maybe we have seen in the last few years," Flames general manager Brad Treliving said.

"I think there is probably a consensus on the top five, but I think there might be 30 different lists of what order," Treliving said.

Treliving's boss, Brian Burke, has a long history of making big splashes on draft days. He secured the Sedin twins through draft-day trades when he was in Vancouver and also maneuvered on draft day to land Chris Pronger for the Hartford Whalers.

All Treliving knows for sure is that he is likely to pick early in the draft, even if he does make a move.

"We are not moving young assets, whether they are picks or players, for short-term relief," Treliving said. "We are going to make sure we are thinking long term."

Well I can guarantee you the Devils won't be trading their first round pick this year (fuck Kovy).

Umberger, Boll and the Jackets 1st round pick (16) for any one of the top 3.

I would say top four, but Dash will give me a timeout if I suggest Boll going to Calgary.

Again.

lol - Lies, damn lies, and statistics. As for the upcoming draft, I'd rather the Flames stand pat at #4 rather than try to move up and part with a guy like Backlund or Brodie (both of these guys look like legitimate NHL players who hopefully will just get better over the next several years).

I had just thought of that earlier when thinking about what the Panthers might do with that first overall pick - I would like T.J. Brodie and the 4th overall for the 1st overall for the Panthers - and the Flames could take Aaron Ekblad, even though they still need more offense

Although tempting, I don't know if Ekblad would bring anymore to the table than what Brodie already delivers (aside from being several years youunger). Besides, I think Edmonton is going to step in and actually part with one of their "untouchables" in a package to get the No. 1 pick.

I agree about Ekblad, as good as he might be, I'm not sure T.J. Brodie isn't already as good offensively as Ekblad - if the number one pick was going to end up being a better forward than the ones who are in the top five, then I think the Flames should do it but that's not the case this year

As for the Oilers, I'll believe it when I see it

All that blather from MacT about bold moves and basically nothing (aside from swapping out some goalies). He was being interviewed on the Sportsnet intermission panel yesterday at the Memorial Cup and it was pretty much standard boiler plate stuff ("We feel pretty good about our team and coaching staff, we saw improvements in the second half of the season).
