There are 5 big prospects out there. If we fall to the 5th spot (which is likely) and Parker stays - all 4 are gone when we draft. We are stuck with Marcus Smart in the 5 spot most likely. Not a bad addition at all, but not 5th pick worthy.

In which case the Lakers will be looking to trade the pick. Sign and trade deal with Minnesota for Love for instance. Would you rather have Marcus Smart or Kevin Love?

Good point. But what is the rule about trading our 1st Round pick this year? We can do it but only if we swap picks (or did I completely misunderstand that)?

Right now we are sitting at 6th and Minnesota is sitting at about 15th. Would those roughly 9 spots be enough for Minnesota to swap and trade with us? Do we have anything else to offer them along with this?

UPDATE. The Celtics lost to 2 teams that I DEFINITELY had them beating and then they made up for it by beating Charlotte AND Cleveland tonight, which means we are TIED for the 5th spot. They still have the sixers as well so it's possible that we overtake them

Does anyone know if lakers have tie breaker advantage over Boston and Utah? A loss to Utah will tie them in losses. Currently they have same amount of wins as Boston assuming Boston doesn't win anymore games.

Boston has the tiebreaker with us (I believe) because the Lakers swept them. If the Lakers lose tonight, then they will have the tiebreaker vs. Utah because Utah will have won 3 of 4.

Lol - it is actually safe to say then (without exaggeration), that tonight's game is one of the most important in Lakers history.

* We only get this draft pick for next 2 years;
* We need to land this pick to attract Love next year;
* We need a top 4 pick to get a marquee player;
* Losing tonight could get us in 4th spot - where a win could put us in 6th.

Sad but true.

Best case scenario is 4th worst. Obviously the Lakers need to lose these last two road games. Hopefully Utah comes to play as well as the Spur's backups. Gotta think Pops will be resting starters in a meaningless last game. Boston is at Philly tonight then home for Washington. They just need to win one of those! Big difference between 5th and 6th percentage wise as far as worst pick scenarios.
