PC & jrs - I'm not gonna rain on your party, but you know how cautious I am about jumping on band-wagons, I'm still not convinced that Joe is gonna stop doinking the ball into LF and start using his natural strength to drive the ball to all fields. If he does, watch out AL! The "beast" is back and he will ignite the other guys! GO TWINS!

Well they had to make it interesting, but they got that one.
Any body get to watch the bottom of the 9th on TV???.......all of a sudden the announcers for the angels started broadcasting on FSN and finished the game. Not sure what that was all about?

I heard Dick and Bert through the whole thing. Maybe the Angels announcers got mad and walked out?

Mauer may have suffered some injuries and had a down year but that's baseball and it doesn't change the player he is. As he is showing right now with that .386 BA.

Hey Buck

You're not raining on any parade. I just have a differing viewpoint on Joe Mauer than you do, and thats not a problem it actually creates good debate on venues like the SportsHoopla.
For what its worth here is my :2cents: on Mauer:
In every profession it is a goal of a worker to make the best possible salary, Mauer is no different than anyone else in that aspect. If the Twins didn't pay him someone else would have.
If Mauer had left for greener pastures he would have been branded a trader. The Twins front office would have been vilified for letting MN's prodigal son simply walk away. If he is hitting .380 for another team right now, the boards would be blowing up about how we never keep any of our good players.
Instead he stays continues to play and hit (other than one year he was injured) the way he always has: Great avg., incredible OBP, a lot of doubles, and a homerun mixed in every once in a while, and catches a pretty good game. He doesn't create problems in the clubhouse, he doesn't have 4 DWI's, he doesn't have 8 kids with 8 different woman. He is the constant professional, and always says the right thing. To me this is refreshing because it is becoming so rare in sports today. Here is a guy that kids can actually look to as a sports idol and the best part is that their parents do not have to have to explain any baggage.
Mauer is most definately overpaid, there is no doubt about it. I don't see a player out there that is worth $20M+ / year. I've said it before, part of his salary needs to be attributed towards P.R. and marketing for the Twins.
Long story short, this Twins fan is happy to see him still in a Twins uniform, and I enjoy watching him play!

PC - That was a very well written post about Joe! I can't, nor do I want to argue against any of it. I've always maintained that if the Twins hadn't signed a promise in blood that Joe would be signed long-term, the new stadium wouldn't have been built. I like to play "Devil's advocate" in discussions about athlete's performance and always with humor at the bottom of it. You know me better than anyone in this regard. Btw- I sense a big year coming from Joe right now. As Joe goes...so go the Twins!

I can't sign off w/o praising your continued prowess with your Commodore 64! Taxi Driver is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, with Deep Throat being the absolute greatest, but I also know that a lot of people don't get into silly love-stories like Deep Throat. I had plenty of office debates over the years on that! Lena's mother would never accept that Deep Throat was a love story. I also don't think she liked me that much. People should be more flexible....don't you agree??

As much as I would like to take credit for that post, it was actually the work of jrs. He deserves the props!

I did post the pic though and agree that Taxi Driver is a good one.
LOL @ "love story" Deep Throat! :laugh3:

Hey Fellas!

I hear what your sayin' Buck, and see the valid points you continually make regarding the Twins. In some aspect the team is a mess right now. Mainly starting pitching. I am in complete agreement with you in the points you have made about Twins ownership. We all got screwed over with a bait and switch when the stadium was built. We heard over and over how the Twins could not be competitive in the Dome and because of this we needed a new stadium. Taxpayers gave them the stadium, and we got a big :finger: from ownership with the product they are putting on the field, and they sure didn't waste any time doing it to us either.
We continue to hear through the media how great the Pohlads are. Huh?! Who do they think they are fooling? Now they have erected bronze statues of Carl and Eloise in front of the field.:puke: I think This generation of Pohlads are even worse. One of the richest ownerships in all of sports and this is how they run it. Wring every last drop of profit possible out of the team. I am convinced that this is where the problem is. I give Terry Ryan a lot of credit for dealing with what he has to work with. He is dealing with such a tight margin that he has zero room for error.
Sorry for the rant here, I guess the snow has finally gotten to me!
Oh yeah........Go Twins!

Oh yeah........Go Twins!

That so many fans do not understand the Twins hierarchy baffles me, but then most of these people can't balance their checkbook either. Look at what the Marlin's owner has done to his team after he got that beautiful, breathtaking stadium with the retractable roof. He gutted the whole team 3-months into the inaugural season. The fans down here have mutinied as has the press. No one is blaming the manager or GM, however. Guess those Cubans are smarter than those Swedes & Norskies up where you are. Gardy's getting all the blame. Boy, oh boy! Or is it, Uff da?? I forget.......

Yeah, the Marlin's owner makes the Pohlads look pretty good in comparison. That is just flat out bad business, given the fact that attendance is so poor. It was cool to hear that the sly ole Red Dog got a shot down there. If he can survive in Miami he will be a really good manager. I loved having that guy in a Twins uniform. I am betting he will be become the scapegoat for that owner after 2-3 inevitably bad seasons in row though.

Well, so much for that. I was all excited to see a sweep, and I just sat down with some pizza and a cold one to Hear Hanneman say that the game is postponed. :gaah:

jrs - I'm skipping back & forth between the Marlins & Rays. The Marlins were looking bad so I switched to the Rays who now lead Balt. 4-2.

Why were the Twins postponed?

Its beacause things were going too good for them and the baseball gods decided to put them back in their place. Rain, sleet, and snow at TF tonight.
