Klay

Briefly put, not sure HB's ceiling is much more than Trevor Ariza with an additional 15 lbs.

The 3 vs 2 break that HB was running had me shaking my head.

D. Lee was free on the left wing, and should have gotten the ball, instead the result was a lame turnover.

HB's shot looks smoother than last year, but everything else seems off.

Barnes needs to improve his handle. He's still very sloppy with the ball, and he's relied upon to be the guy to get to the rim. Also he needs to watch Paul Pierce in the way he creates separation. Barnes is athletic but he isn't necessarily very quick. If Barnes learns to create some separation or develop a knock down shot off his post ups, he could be deadly.

As of right now, gun to my head, I take Klay. Klay can just do a lot more things on the court than Barnes. Klay's handle is underrated, his passing could use work, but he's getting to the rim a lot more. Also with Curry and AI going to be here running the show, Klay is a better off the ball player than Barnes.

A couple weeks ago I would have said keep Barnes (and I did). But Barnes has been absolutely dreadful in the last few weeks and overall this year, not very impressive. Just on athletic ability alone the dude should be capable of doing more, but he seems to be regressing. If I had to keep one right now it would be Klay. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to send either of them out for an upgrade like Kevin Love.

It's funny. I agree with you about every point, except your final choice. It comes down to what the team needs and who will be there longterm. Curry, Iggy, Lee and Bogut most likely aren't going anywhere for a myriad of reasons. I have to go with the better perimeter defender, and that is Barnes. Since Klay has had Iggy to guard the best wing, he has certainly looked much better on D and had flashes (not just the block on CP3) of fantastic rotations, as well as holding his own on the ball. However, HB has always had the potential to be elite without the ball in his hands. I'd like to say both, but that is chickenshit. Of course, every fan wants both. They are great young players. They have flaws, of course, but they both should be very happy with their developments thus far. I hope neither plateau.

Very true, but will HB ever get to that ceiling on this roster?

Steph's the #1, Klay chucks up 20+ some nights, D.Lee is the #3 option, Bogut / ANdre I split the other touches.

HB has been getting leftovers. HE got to run with the 1st unit when #9 was injured, but just as Steph needed Moped Boy to go, HB may need a roster move before he "soars" to the next level.

Pet peeve of the day,

Klay/HB on smaller men on iso's taking fadaways.

What's wrong with going straight up, or going hard to the basket?

Bump.

HB had another fast break where he failed to come through with the "proper basketball play".

Klay struggled for the most part from the field against BOS 1/10/14, but D. Green's emergence has basically dwarfed any progress from HB most nights. 1 point for HB from the line tonight. UGH.

Seems to me a trade might be something HB needs to soar like the Black Falcon again.

Barnes needs to start. He only had 1 pt because he tried to come in and chuck 3's for the most part, that's not his game. Barnes his a starting 3, Iggy can run at the 2 (interchange on defense).

Klay is a perfect 6th man.

If HB is having trouble finding his game vs 2nd team back ups and 3rd team scrubs, he's going to play better vs the Durants , Battier's, and Ibaka's of the world?

Steph is going to get his shots, D.Lee is going to get his shots, Klay gets his shots because he's the 1b shooter on the squad.

I wouldn't start HB at this point, unless you were talking about starting him down in the DLeague on a off night for the big squad. HB's problem isn't talent right now, its confidence and execution. He needs to go down to the minors and find his game.

Trouble is, we are in the playoff hunt and can't afford to send HB down right now. Big time catch 22.

He's already proven that he is very capable of playing with those guys. He started every game last season and did very well.

It's clear that HB is lost and not understanding who or how to be off the bench. You hit the nail on the head with the bold part. He is a better all around fit in our starting 5 than Klay is.

Klay would bring a pure scorer off the bench. Catch about Klay off the bench is that I don't see it being as effective with Bazemore and Douglas running the point, I think its a move to be made with whoever is the pg we bring in.

He was "capable", that was a different team, with team players, rotations and schemes.

This team has an Olympian in #9, and a healthy Bogut, there's a difference. I'm hoping he's just nursing an injury that the team hasn't disclosed, he hasn't shown the flashes of brilliance, or any sign of sustained improvement that I can see.

We can agree to disagree. Dubs keep winning, that's all that matters.

I'll bite Rayhl, why would DEN or CLE do those deals?

HB isn't worth his weight at this point, but they are going to give up good young 4's because they like us?

NBK:

There's little doubt that Barnes has upside. It's difficult to determine what that upside is. Ariza, Richard Jefferson or Danny Granger. Probably not as high as Granger but higher than Trevor Ariza. Faried is not starting in Denver and once Dino G. returns to Denver, he's the starting PF along w Chandler at the SF spot. In Cleve, that trade may not be as feasible but not so out of the question or realm of possibilities. If the league considers Barnes to be some middling SF that simply has problems adjusting to the NBA game then a trade for Thompson or Faried is not likely. A trade for Brandon Bass or that quality of player is what the Warriors could get. But, I am assuming that the tape of Barnes especially his playoff performance would show the kind of upside he has. I think Dray Green can be a very adequate backup SF and there is a need for a physically strong backup PF to David Lee - Fest is more a 5. Denver is young, they run and gun and maybe a Lawson Dino Barnes trio is not a bad starting place. Yeah, Cleve won;t move Thompson. Sorry for that one but Denver could bite.
