Yeah and Wash's answer was he ain't sitting anytime soon. Something like if Young's ship sinks he will be going down right there with him.

In a nutshell....yeah. Have to listen to the audio to get the full answer / his reasoning behind it.

In all honesty, he's not a "what have you done for me lately" type of manager. He'd rather go with the proven guy over the "now" guy.

This season more than any other has exposed Ron Washington's shortcomings as a manager and as a person. I was highly critical of Wash during his first few years when the head-scratching moves happened nightly. But then he seemed to improve somewhat as the team itself improved. The rapport he had with his players was obvious and his positivity seemed to rub off on the team. I saw what he brought to the team in terms of keeping up morale and getting the most out of his guys, so I was willing to overlook his tactical gaffes. But over the last few years, Wash hasn't had a terrible amount of adversity to deal with other than the one cocaine scandal and the rare Josh relapse.

But this season has posed new challenges to Wash and he just isn't handling them well. With declining and slumping vets and surging youngsters and role players, Wash has faced lineup decisions on a nightly basis. He has responded by stubbornly sticking by the sinking MY ship and refusing to play upstarts like Gentry and Moreland. With his lineups and tactical decisions blowing up in his face, Wash has responded by lashing out at any media member who dares to question him, throwing players under the bus, and seemingly making more lineup decisions just to spite the media and fans.

Because of it, Wash has come off as stubborn, petty, vindictive, self-serving, and worst of all oblivious to what is going on with his team. If MY suddenly goes on a 40 for 60 tear with multiple RBI, I'll gladly eat crow. But I don't see that happening.

Norm just asked the question about Young that we've all been wanting to ask him.

Major props.

Norm will usually be the one to ask those type questions. His bread and butter do not depend on clubhouse access and official Ranger hype PR. The DMN and FWST group are like mice (or at least they were when I was living in the metroplex).

The fact that RW answered the question the question the way he did should not be any surprise to any of us. RW is doing exactly what the front office tells him to do with PADMY. Nothing more and nothing less.

Do you get the impression that his illogical loyalty to MY is coming from front office orders? I guess I always thought the "MY will play every day" routine was strictly a Wash thing. But I guess it could be a JD thing too. Hard to say why MY plays every day. Maybe it's both of them.

There is probably a metric TEX watches in the number of #10 shirts bought by 9-12yo kids. Since 9-12yo kids don't go to the game alone ... probably with 2 adults and sibling ... that equals concession money.

Kids that age make up their own minds as to who they like ... but they wouldn't buy his shirt if he's not on the field to cheer for ... so we are screwed as long as 9-12yo kids keep buying his shirt.

Kids are stupid, place the Young shirts somewhere inconvenient, they'll get any shirt as long its someone buying them something

And after this season I have a feeling most of the 9-12 demo is going to be thinking "Young sucks, I want a _______ shirt/jersey"

In fact, when I went to the game a couple weeks ago, I saw NO ONE clamoring to get a Young jersey, they were looking elsewhere (even heard someone say they wanted a Gentry jersey), I sat there a while contemplating my choices, and plus I was genuinely curious

There you go. If I was a 9-yo kid I'd want a Gentry shirt too. Metric probably only gets reported once a month so the word will not come down to the field from the FO until near the end of the month that Wash can now sit MY.

In all fairness, I was also looking for a Gentry shirt myself, but alas I was foiled in my attempts to acquire one, but I was glad that I wasn't the only one

much as Gentry has been rejected in his attempt to acquire well deserved playing time by doing the unthinkable... playing well

Kinda like a Vernon Wells situation IMO... dont want to pay a guy the kind of money they're paying him...to just sit on the bench.

Very Similar, and luckily for us, b/c Wells has managed to vulture ABs from both Trumbo and Trout since his return... but certainly not to the extent that Young has, Scioscia might be dumb, but he's not that dumb

People who think this way don't understand the basic economic concept of sunk costs.

Well things are not going anywhere close to plan.

Knew Napoli was nursing the quad ... and actually wouldn't have been surprised if it was Cruz that went out.

Okay ... well time for everybody to step it up ... and Luis Martinez has been hot at Round Rock ... so maybe it will carry over. Might be smart if he got the start.

how many teams leading their division and their league have fired their manager and continued on to the division championship and WS?

This team can win the division in spite of Ron Washington. Two WS in a row have shown us how Wash is grossly outclassed. This team cannot win a WS with Wash at the helm.
