I would be surprised if naps isn't still the #1 catcher. Or at least getting 50/50 time back there.

As of right now, the AL West is the best division in baseball. I'm not sure if that's ever been true before, but it is now. In simplistic terms, the AL West has the highest winning % of any division. Granted, there are only 4 teams so it's easier not to have multiple bottom feeders. But it also makes it more impressive when you consider that both current Wild Card teams are in the west. The Rangers have the best record in the AL and 3 of the top 5 records in the AL belong to teams in the AL West. No longer is it just one team from the west with a great record due to beating up on the other 3 weak division opponents. Plus, the one weak team in the division is better than most of the other divisions' bottom feeders (AL East being the exception there). The AL East has reigned supreme for a while, but Boston continues to struggle and TB, BAL, and TOR are kind of treading water and hovering around .500.

you just have way too much time on your hands. why don't you go down to the dugout and talk to Wash, because it doesn't accomplish anything to keep harping on it on this board?

there is a news flash.

Gonzalez has been less visible than Blanco was in past seasons but he is there for his ability to field the middle and 3b.

Scutaro is out of the picture with his move to SFG ... so a move TEX might make to switch up UIF might be internally Luis Hernandez (.263/.317/.385/.635) has had 92 starts @ SS and 12 @ 2b for RR and would give TEX a hotter bat to sit on the bench.

Hernandez has no time @3b but with Olt on the roster Gonzalez is not needed to be a backup 3b ... so switching out to another veteran Hernandez would give TEX a switch hitting UIF who is better this year from the left side than the right.

From Scott Lucas' morning TEX Farm Report email ...

"If your name was Luis, you had a good day. The shortstop Hernandez his a three-run homer (his eighth), and the catcher Martinez was 4-4 with a double".

Going down the stretch ... would like Wash to have more than defensive liability Young or offensive liability available to sub for Kinsler. Swapping a hot switch hitting Hernandez for Gonzalez going through deep August might provide a key sub to give Andrus and Kinsler a day off to get to September. Hernandez isn't on the 40man.

To make room for him would mean IMO ... most likely DFA Gonzalez (who is out of options) and hope he cleared in order to reassign him to AAA. I don't see TEX putting Colby Lewis on the 60day DL to make room for a UIF. They will hold that option open for something more pressing than switching UIFs.

TEX could trade either Borbon (who is behind Martin on the depth chart) or Engle Beltre (who ostensibly is behind Borbon) to free up a spot via trade for a prospect(s). They could release Snyder or Luis Martinez ... but don't see that either especially for Martinez who is #3 C on the depth chart although trading him for non-roster AAA catcher might be a solution.

Another option might be to trade Gonzalez to PHL for Andres Blanco who is having a near identical season for Lehigh Valley as Hernandez is having for Round Rock.

So while the idea of swapping out UIFs might be marginally worthwhile ... it will take some work which brings with it their own plus/minuses.

(I got to find more worthwhile things to do with my time than figuring out the options TEX might take to upgrade the UIF spot).

Colby Lewis is already on the 60 day DL to make room for Olt

You know I thought that too ... but then when I went to the TEX official website the 40man roster shows Colby on 15day DL. Think you are right.

Yeah surprising, they're usually on top of that

But on ESPN, he's not listed on the 40 man roster anymore

From the numbers looks to be a competent fielder and he's LHed

I'd be on board with Fontenot as a Gonzalez replacement

Manager Ron Washington said Roy Oswalt declined to extend his relief outing | texasrangers.com: News

"He said he couldn't go any further," manager Ron Washington said. "He said he had enough."

So Oswalt says he isnt going to pitch out of relief anymore.... period.

Does Oswalt have any trade protection? If not, I'd put him on waivers and see if we can move him. Even if we trade him and $4M to pay off this season for nothing more than a AAA projected reliever, it would be worth it.

Oswalt still thinks He is that Premeire Pitcher of 5-6 Years Ago. No Team signed him to start the Season. Roy should be thankful He has a Job right now,

He was good last year and great in 2010 i still think he can be a good starter. He had 2 really good starts before that really bad one against the angels

The only Question with Oswalt. Will His back Hold Up? But it doesn't look good what happened yesterday when Oswalt didn't want to pitch beyong the Two Innings. But if He gets His head on straight and Pitches well in Long Relief Oswalt can get back into the Rotation before the Year is out.
