Wonder if the Rangers would make offer on Justin Upton

They have interest....but dont really want to part with Olt or Profar to make the deal for him.
I'm in the camp that says let the troops rally and make a run as is
Only thing I would do is maybe look for a better bench bat than Snyder, but thats about it
As it is, with the system the way it is, we are poised to compete at a high level for years to come (including this year, no less)
You start thinning out the system now then it becomes harder to sustain success

I'd be awfully concerned about bringing a catcher in to be our #1 catcher midway through the season who knows nothing about our pitchers, or AL hitters. Sorry winding. I believe that's just wishful thinking on your part.
I'd like TEX to make a deal to bring in a true #1 catcher. Take the pressure off Napoli to play 1b and DH and be the second catcher. That's the position he was in last year and it translated to his offense. This year as the starting catcher for whatever reason has hindered his offensive breakout.
Last year YT had an average offensive season ... down from his career high ... but now in 2012 his offensive performance has not been major league qualifying. Next season he's not going to find a job in MLB ... so TEX ought to help him get a jump on the job market and let him start his new job search now.
YT is not contributing to the drive to the post season. TEX makes a deal for a #1 catcher before the deadline. Conversation with PHL is not about Hamels ... it is about Carlos Ruiz.
Which team is going to trade a #1 catcher?
The one that is rebuilding in 2013 and who will lose him after the 2013 season to FA.
and again i ask: what team is that? and which catcher from this list?
Carlos Ruiz (34) - $5MM club option with a $500K buyout. He's not a part of PHL's future at that age and his excellent 2012 (.352/413/.586/.999) and trade potential is wasted with PHL post season chances slim.

Amaro seems to be high on keeping Ruiz as one of his mainstays at least thru next season at the 5M

Maybe ... but then at the end of 2013 what does PHL get for him?

they move on. like teams do every year

Okay... maybe they do ... just seems to be a lot to pay for what amounts to a one year deal for a catcher on a rebuilding team when they can get YT cheaper for 2013 and get something more for CR today.

So do you offer then YT and a prospect or two?

Sure ... nothing over the top. If he were to stick with PHL through 2013 and then went to the FA market PHL may not get anything for him. Under the new CBA am not sure what he would grade out to be ... but his chance of getting picked up for his 35-yo season will be slim. So getting something for him today along with YT would save money and contribute to the future.
If TEX were making a deal with PHL for Hamels he might be part of the same trade bundle rather than a separate deal.
