That might be the lineup come the ASB, but Huff will get a chance to start 2012 at 1B.

And I have to think, just to keep Tim and Matt and Bum from blowing gaskets, that they will spend at least SOME money on FAs, like Crisp and/or Rollins. Also, where's Freddy Sanchez?

CF-Peguero
2B-Gillaspie
C-Posey
3B-Sandoval
LF-Belt
1B-Pill
RF-Schierholtz
SS-Crawford.......Sabean and Bochy using last 2 games to evaluate so will Gillaspie be OD 2B if Sanchez not ready? No type A FAs please. They have been doin such a good job with our early draft picks.I dont want to give away a 1st.

I think MSG pretty much nailed it.

Peggy will not be the OD CFer outside of some whacked out series of events. They did not even give him a cup a' joe this year. I expect Cudyer / Crisp to be added to the mix.

Based SOLELY on Melon's remarks that Gillaspie will make noise next year, I will pencil him onto the team next year. Maybe as the super-sub? He has played VARY limited non-3B positions in his career so far, so that would be surprising...

CF Crisp / Cudyer (is he good enough for CF?)
2B Franchez
C Posey
3B Panda
1B Huff
LF Belt
RF Nate
SS Crawford

Pill
Gillaspie
Stewart
Burriss
Torres / Ross / FA

Timmeh
Cain
Bum
Vogey
Durty

Zito
Lopez
Runz
Ramirez
Romo
Casilla
Wilson

I hate to say it, but I do not see room on the roster or in the budget for Keppy. Too bad. I like him.

This approaches my take too. But I don't think Cuddyer can handle CF, and I do think they will try to find a better bat at SS. I also think there's a pretty good chance Durty gets dealt, but then who's the 5th starter? Surkamp?

I agree that there is a good chance that Durty gets dealt. But The Giants are basically averse to trades, so I have a hard time factoring that in.

As for who the #6 starter is, I have SERIOUS doubts about Surkamp now. He just strikes me as a wannabe Zito. Do we need to dip into the FA waters for a #5 starter? How sad is that?

I agree that they probably will go out of the org for a SS. But I just continue to LOVE what I see from Baby. He and Belt in the same lineup would have the opposing SP at 100 pitches by the 3rd inning by themselves. I could live with a .220 BA with that kind of pitcher-fucking.

 at that word invention.

Yesterday seeing the entire offense be basically Belt, Gillaspie, and Crawford was terrific. If we could somehow expect that kind of production consistently from them, of course we wouldn't need another SS. But Crawford hasn't hit well at any level above A ball, so he may just need more time or he may never...

And if Surkamp can just be 75% of EARLY career Zito, fine by me!

That's some serious rosterbation but this ain't a video game. I'd be surprised if more than 25% of these moves happen.

I don't see how its so unlikely. Beltran said that a leadoff hitter needed to be addressed before he'd consider returning. He gets his leadoff hitter in Rollins, but it will come at a price. Now we have no where for Crawford and Kamp and Zito as 6th and 7th starters. Zito aint going anywhere. Tampa is looking to unload Upton and not take on salary. They have a hole at SS.

Well, maybe you're right that its unlikely, but it makes sense (which I know you never said it didn't).

Beltran is our GM now? We can't afford him, let alone 5 years of Rollins too. Tampa will want more for Upton and get it elsewhere. We won't resign Affeldt to save $. Etc.

I'd like Beltran too, but he will get 4/60 or more from an AL team. And I don't like him a whole lot.

Touche. No he is not.

I really want to see Beltran back (as many of you know). I think the Giants are really going to push to get Beltran back, which would unfortunately mean that we have less bargaining room.

Just a thought, anyone have a list of Boras' clients that are free agents this year? I wonder if he would try to pair one of his "leadoff" type clients with Beltran as sort of a "package deal".

Then you aren't paying attention to the budget.

:smash: I thought about the budget. I just never know what to expect from it.

A few years ago, Giants didn't want to go above $90 million. They did. They said they didnt want to approach $100 million. They did. Last year they didn't want to raise payroll substantially. They had to. They had the 3rd best attendance in baseball this past year, a WS title run last year, a plethora of All-Stars this year, money coming of the books.

Point is, no one fucking know what they are going to do with the Budget.

Point is, no one fucking know what they are going to do with the Budget.

They've given no indication that payroll is going up, and they said it won't go down. Therefore, let's look at money committed in 2012:

On the books: Zito (19), Huff (10), Cain (15.3), Wilson (8.5), Franchez (6), Affeldt**(0.5 buyout), Rowand** (13.6), Buster (0.7), Bum (0.6), Runzler (0.5), Craw (0.4), Gillaspie (0.4), Pill (0.4), Stewie (0.4), Kamp (0.4), Belt (0.5). Total is 77.2 with 14 players under contract.

Arb eligible, likely to be retained, estimated salary: Timmy (18), Chez (5), Torres (2.5), RamRam (2), Casilla (2), Fonty (1.5), Song (4), Panda (5), Romo (1), Nate (2). Total is 43. That's about 120MM with 24 under contract.

FA, likely to be signed: Lopez (2.5). 122.5MM with 25 under contract

ARB, not offered: Kepp, Whiteside

FA, let go: Beltran, Ross, DeRo, PTB, Cabrera, Mota

Option not picked up: Affeldt

Say we're able to trade Chez (-5MM) and get Cuddyer (+9MM). That would put us at 126.5, give or take. Let's also say that either Cuddy or Nate leads off.

To add Beltran, we'd need at LEAST 15MM which would push us at or over $140MM.

Not....gonna....happen.

What I want:

CF 2010 Torres
2B Franchez
C Posey
3B Sandoval
LF Beltran
1B 2010 Huff
SS Rollins
RF Schierholtz

I am thinking they don't break the bank and sign Beltran or Rollins (sigh) but they should. Hopefully then Huff returns to good form and if so we will have a pretty good 2-3-4-5 with Franchez, Posey, Pablo and Huff. If Belt progresses and Schierholtz can stay healthy that's a pretty good 2-7.

That leaves CF and SS anybody notice we need one of each of those? :peace: I wouldn't be surprised to see Crawford at SS, but if so they will sign a veteran backup. Is there an aging .235 SS (crappy range preferrably) somewhere out there?

I am tempted to think Sabean might go with CF: Torres/Christian/Crappy FA, SS: Crawford/Crappy Vet and try and make a deal at the deadline to once again improve a flailing offense. But there would be a spring training investigation into his murder by 96 mph heater if he does that.

If there is no murder investigation then that will mean he A) signed Rollins to play SS, or B) Signed a real CF - I don't see any really good CF options out there personally. If they sign Rollins then the CF spot is the 8th place hitter and we might see Torres/Crap back.

May be too early but what the hell.Post your wishes for rebuilding our team into a contender this offseason.I dont care if your realistic but others will LOL:whistle:

Just brainstorming here, and it pains me to even think about it, but...

...if we are boxed in payroll-wise, could we possibly trade Weezy for a SS or CF, and make Casilla the closer? Keep in mind that Hembree may not be far away, either. And we still have Romo, Lopez, and Runzler, who pitched well in September.

To win a championship on a limited payroll (thank you very little Aaron and Barry), I think you have to roll the dice a little, and hope that you get a huge return on your smaller investments.

I know that Wilson is the heart and soul of the bullpen, if not the pitching staff, or even the team. But if we could pick up a quality hitter at a needed position, perhaps on paper at least there wouldn't be much of a drop-off from Wilson to Casilla.

I think it would be a GREAT idea to deal Weez for a solid cog. The problem, as I see it, is that trading Weez now if selling WAY low. He is damaged goods, and no GM would risk his job sending a solid player for a heart-wrenching closer with back and arm troubles.

To lazy to look it up, but I'm pretty sure there is a good chance our bull pen gets rapped like the Rays did last year. Lopez and Affedlt are good as gone, they are the two best leftie RP on the market

Casilla, Romo, and RamRam are all due significant raises

Wilson is already expensive

They cant afford to keep everyone.

Lopez is a LOOGY; he doesn't have as much value as Affeldt. I'd be the Giants bring Lopez back for 2/6 or something like that.
