As expected, 2010 beat 2002 and 2012 beat 1989. Now we get to compare 2010 and 2012.

Again, use whatever criteria you want.

I will not list the rosters again, since they are already here. I will open the poll in a couple days.

i wasnt alive for 89, thankfully. 02 i was actually in So Cal during game one for my aunt's birthday. while at the hotel my cousin gave me one of those walkie talkies that pick up radio frequencies. at some point at the start of the game, i apparently switched to a trucker frequency on accident. I was screaming about the game, then a trucker told me to shut the fuck up.

2012 was more torture in the post season, which was pretty stressful. also getting fired in the middle of it kinda sucked too, so i gotta go with 2010.

It would be a cool matchup to see simulated.

'10Timmy vs. Mr. Perfect
'10 Cain vs. Vogelstrong
MadBum vs. MadBum

Lotta mojo with both teams... I leaning towards the 2012 squad

Timmeh v Cain (2010) *
Cain v Vogelsong (2010) *
Bum v Bum (2012) *
Sanchez v Zito (2010) *

Posey v Posey (2012) *
Huff v Belt (2010) ***
Franchez v Theriot/Scutero (2010) *
Rent/Uribe v Crawford (2012) **
Panda/Uribe v Panda (2012) ***
Ross/Burrell v Cabrera/Blanco (2012) ***
Rowand/Torres v Pagan (2012) ***
Torres/Nate v Pence/Blanco (2012) *

I would say that 2012 was clearly a better team. The pitching was comparable, but the offense was significantly stronger. Team chemistry was super strong on both teams, and yet totally different both years. 2010 was a bunch of cast-offs that happened to gel perfectly. It was kind of a "Major League" meets "Bad News Bears". 2012 was the team that most serious baseball fans wish their team was - home-grown, gritty, never-say-die. You gotta love both of these teams.

But it comes down to one number for me...

2010 gets my vote, and it isn't really close.

EDIT: FIFY in bold.

EDIT: FIFY in bold.

'12 Belt over '10 Huff? I think your memory is going bad in your old age. Huff was pretty fucking good in '10.

While Moped was super-epic for the time he was with he Giants, we still had to endure most of the year with ManBur and Riot. Franchez was quite solid in '10.

Huff > Belt both in the regular season and Playoffs.
Sanchez > Riot/Scutaro in the regular season; Scutaro > Sanchez in playoffs. I'd give that one a push.
Sanchez > Zito in the regular season; Zito > Sanchez in playoffs I'd give that one a push too.

My humble opinions.

I was confused with the column placing. I thought you were differentiating the years for players that were on both rosters. Never mind. Carry on.

Hey, the guy just got married awhile back. Give him at least a 10 year break..... :heh:

I'd go for 2012 if I were a betting man. I think the lineups they faced were much better in the first two rounds of 2012 than they were in 2010 (Phillies were kind of top heavy and aging). The Rangers (2010) had a better lineup than the Tigers (2010) did though.

I got 2012 by a nose. That 2010 team was hitting on all the right cylinders all throughout the playoffs, seemed to know they were playign with house money and had better starting pitching. The 2012 team seemed like it had enough talent to get behind the 8 ball and battle back.

The 2010 squad had some serious mojo working which made up for a lot of deficiencies. They were running of amazing pitching and unexpected contributiins. Brooks Conrad tipped the scales in their favor.

While many things were made about the "breaks" and "luck" the 2012 got. I think they are proof that their depth and overall talent won out over the length of each series. This 2012 team for we reserve the right to piss and moan about all year was pretty f*cking good.

It just took the world some time to realize it.

I will have to go with 2012. They absolutely dominated in their last 7 postseason games. Pitching may have been slightly better for 2010, but 2012 is significantly better in defense and offense, IMO. I think 2012 had a better bench, too.

I forgot to add an end date to the poll (if any of the other mods know how to edit an existing poll, please feel free to step in), so we will just agree to declare a winner by Sunday at about noon.

Vote away, gents...

I'm not sure who was better - but it's like this...

In the ancient past there was a time called New York.
Then there were the Dark Ages.
Then there was 2010.

I loved 2012, but 2010 was the end of the dark ages, the end of futility, the end of 1989 and 2002, the age of Aquarius, and behold, it was very good!

Loved 2012 but 2010 was the GOAT.

Agreed.

On November 2, 2010, my throat still hurt from screaming so much and I arrived at work with a hang-over.

On October 28, 2012, I sat somewhat quietly and smiled with deep contentedness.

Fullfilling? Yes.

Memorable? Yup.

Earth-shattering? Not in 2012.

I hear you guys. Nothing can eclipse the team that eased 50 years of curses. I might be confused here, aren't we doing a "what if they played, in a vacuum, etc etc" thread?

The sweet isnt as sweet without the bitter and no other Giants team, no matter how good, will have the opportunity the 2010 champs had (unless :knocks wood: there's another 50 yr championship drought)

On overall talent, I'd give the 2012 Giants team a good chance vs any other world series champion this century.

I specifically stated that you can use whatever criteria you want. You chose head-to-head.

I agree that if they were to play 100 games, 2012 might win 56 or 57 of those games. I think that of the 4 World Series teams, 2010 was probably the worst of the 4. But they were so much more than that.

That was the criteria that I used.

Side note...

I think someone mentioned this already, but 1993 may have been better then all these teams. Clark, Williams, Bonds, Thompson, McGee, Swift, Burkett, Beck, 103...

Oh what should have been.

Damn you Dusty and Soloman...

oh ok, fair enough

yes, 2010 represented 50 years of San Francisco Giants redemption

A big nod to 2010 because what they did meant so much to this city and this franchise.
