2010 wins with a 6-2 vote.

I am not surprised they won, but I definitely thought it would have been closer.

Agreed.

On November 2, 2010, my throat still hurt from screaming so much and I arrived at work with a hang-over.

On October 28, 2012, I sat somewhat quietly and smiled with deep contentedness.

Fullfilling? Yes.

Memorable? Yup.

Earth-shattering? Not in 2012.

Whatever. They should win it every year. ;)

MLB network just showed a 2-hour recap of the 2010 World Series.

I am sorry, but 2012 did NOT feel this way. As a compliment to 2010, 2012 is AWESOME, but it just not feel the same.

Agreed. I just watched it also, and it brought back the memories of getting the monkey off our backs. 2012 was great, but 2010 was one of a kind.

Then why did you vote 2012 over 2010 in this poll?

"Use whatever criteria you want"

My vote was based on which team I thought was better.

My last comment was based on which year was more emotionally satisfying.

So much for secret ballot. Didn't realize this was a union shop.

2010 was great and ended the drought for us and made me happy as hell.Up untill then I had begun to believe they wouldnt win a championship in my lifetime. The out come of every playoff series in 2010 was never in any real doubt. They pretty much strangled the life out of the Braves,Phillies and Rangers giving up only 1 game to each.In 2012 they tricked me into believing they would lose the opening series against the Reds all the way through to game 3 into the 9th inning. Before they swept the Reds out of the way.Tried to trick me again against the Cardinals but I wasnt buying it this time. Then they took care of business against the Tigers.I know that 2010 was a long time coming but there is nothing sweeter than a WS sweep.Especially when the chumps on TV are predicting you to lose.:whoo:

All of this ^. 2010 was more emotionally satisfying (like Mays said), but this team in 2012 would just NOT be denied. It was amazing to see them. Plus, it was just awesome watching even more young, home grown kids rise to the occasion.

2010: you will always remember your first (and like 2010, I couldn't believe as it was happening either lol)

I think the 2012 legend will grow over time..too many special moments from this entire season

Funny, I was thinking 2012's significance might diminish over the years if the Giants win a few more here. While the first, as you say, will always retain it's specialness.

Question to both of you gents.....in regards to the "legends growth/significance" were you guys thinking at a national level or amongst the Giants faithful? (or in your minds would it remain true for both???)

I was only thinking of my own view. I'm not sure what percentage of Giants fans might feel the same. But I'm fairly certain that among fans of other teams, 95% wouldn't care at all about any Giants WS championships - let alone care enough to have them ranked.

Probably true. I was just thinking of other fan bases remembering 2010 as a "fluke" (although you're probably right, that's probably giving other fans too much credit). I just always remember the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals 83 win season (just to give you my an example of my line of thinking).

As for me, it's kind of weird, 2010 was just so unexpected and so euphoric I'm not sure I really appreciated it the way it should have been. I know I'm not as old as some on here who've been waiting a lot longer than I have.....so that could be part of it too. Perhaps it was because they never faced eleimination??? Whatever the reason is, 2012 just had so many elimination game drama and so many "please God"-esque moments for me, that I seem to hold it in higher regard/appreciate it more. I'd say that I'm probably in the minority (by a large amount too) of that though.....but it's just how I feel.

Either way, this has been the most fun I've ever had being a Giants fan. I loved the Clark-Mitchell-Williams days and then the Aurilia-Kent-Bonds days, but I was too young to remember avidly the C-M-W days and even though I liked what Kent and Bonds did for the Giants, I never really liked them.....at least not like I feel with this current Giants squad. If that makes sense???

Makes perfect sense. It's more fun to root for your team when the main players (heck all the players it seems like these days) are good guys with fun personalities. You still root for your team when their main players are assholes (Kent and Bonds) but it's not as fun.

For me it's always been about more than rooting for laundry. I root more passionately when the guys are likeable.

You know, I couldn't vote in this poll. I can't choose between these two years, right now. They're equally satisfying to me, if not actually equal in all their constituent parts. I think it's ok not to choose.

Sure it makes sense. You can admire the talent, if not the guys themselves. For me, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for the 1978 team. But the team I'd pay to watch everyday is the 93' team. Mostly homegrown, and the best Giants team I've ever seen.

2010 meant so much for Giants fans. It was a cleansing for all the "almosts" in our past.

Nationally..2010 was maybe a blip on their radar at most? The major networks couldn't wait to turn the page on that season and starting pimping Phillies' fours aces.

What did it mean to the common fan? Not much probably..just that rival's couldn't use the no rings smack to talk about SF.

Now 2012 and winning 2 out of 3 years, puts the Giants accomplishments at a historical level.
No longer can the critics call the Giants a fluke because the Giants are writing their names all over the history books.

The reason I say the 2012 Giants legend will grow over time is because this team will be brought up over and over in future conversations.

-The next Perfect Game will bring up a list including Matt Cain..
-The next All star game where one team's representatives all contribute to a win will bring up comparisons to what Cain, Pablo, Posey and Melky did (and yes some unfavorably)
-The next time a team goes down 0-2 in the division series and has to win 3 on the road..everyone will be reminded, just how the hell did the Giants pull that one off?
-anytime a team is down 3-1 in the championship series, some announcer somewhere will bring up what the Giants did.
-If there's a big broken bat hit in the playoffs, somebody will show a replay of Hnter Pence's wacky bases clearing hit.
-If someone hits 2 homers in a game, guess who's name will be brought up in his next at bat.

I do not remember if the national media focused on the giants In the same vein as Boston or Chicago when they broke their streaks. I was so focused on this site and other giants-centric sites.

In the grand scheme of things, I think 2012 will be viewed as a more worthy championship team, but they will always be viewed as a single team even though there were only 2 position players on both teams (Posey, .5 Huff and .5 Panda). They will mark the beginning of the 20 year run of 17 championships. It is truly going to be historic, not because of the number of championships won, but because they will be picked to lose every game of every series by every national announcer.

And every time I think of Cain's perfect game, I think of:

I get chills every time I watch it.
