Unfortunately.. He is a victim of the Larry Bird notion of trying to find the next great white hype American born hoops superstar.... his career will go more Adam Morrison than Chandler Parsons

My opinion as well.

Sportsjunkie.....after last years ncaa you still believe they play bball in the west? He looks good playing against those teams. But put a asphalt, chain net, NE boy up against his sorry ass.....Crieghton needs to stay in the west.

They ball out this way.

jonvi, are you guys talking team or player? Creighton isn't a Big East/ACC/Big Ten program so they aren't going to command respect in those circles. McDermott has been given first team All-American status the past two years. Is he over-hyped? Probably. And to be honest, there is never gonna be another Larry Bird just like there will never be another Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan. The Good Lord only made so many in that category.

And SJ76, who says I'm not quick? But thanks on telling me I'm smart and a good shot.

am i the only one who feels like there is no way this should be allowed by NCAA rules?

For a player to walk on or for a father to pay for a player to walk-on? Or only the combination of them both? Or for a player to walk on after previously having a scholarship?

for the father who is paid by the university (and whose salary is set by the university) to be able to pay for it.

Sounds like a rule made just for this one particular situation. And then it also opens a loophole because you're preventing McDermott and possibly 2-3 other kids from walking on. Some players have walked on for their father because they weren't good enough to be scholarship athletes, should that not be allowed? I think one way or another there would be a problem with a rule meant to prevent this. I am surprised he wasn't suspended for the first half of the season opener because this is in violation of the "spirit" of the rule (like Johnny Manziel)

it just overall seems unfair to me, like essentially having an extra scholarship ("yeah, sure greg, let doug walk on...oh did we mention you get a $60k bonus this year?")

or maybe my hatred of creighton basketball is clouding my judgment

I agree, but is there a fair way to fix it?
