Could the 17th game be up in the air until game 17? A potential play-in game before the playoffs if you will...all within the conference. Some games won't matter, but that's no different than today's regular season schedule.

Granted, this was not active for the 2020 season, but if it were KC (14-2) would have played starters v LAC in week 16 to lock up HFA before week 17. This would also solve the issue of who gets 9 home games and who gets 8. Win more and increase your chances of getting that 9th game.
