Anderson, Speas, Barlow, Church and Hearn have the best numbers as relievers in AA and AAA.

From Scott Lucas:

Grant Anderson struck out the side on 12 pitches. Anderson has spent part of the season in AA, so I lack the amount of Statcast data available for others, but so far he's getting an impressive percentage of both swinging and called strikes. He's fanned 12 of 21 batters since returning to the Express. In 2022, like Chase Lee, his occasional meltdowns were exceptionally melty, and avoiding them will improve his chances at a look in Arlington. Anderson's money pitch is a slider that has generated a miss on 48% of opposing swings.

Bubba killed us yesterday. No hits and he struck out pretty much every AB. Responsible for 5 guys left on base.

What happened was what some thought would happen. A BP game with our relivers was not a good bet. Blame it on Bochy. Another wasted game.

I don’t see how anyone can blame Bochy. What do you want him to do? He’s got nothing but a huge pile of garbage in his bullpen. Who is he supposed to use? Burke is their only legitimate bullpen arm. Ragans is probably their 2nd best. Harris is a so-so journeyman. Hernandez is inconsistent. Kennedy is 100% washed-up and unusable. Sborz is just as unusable, if not more so, than Kennedy. LeClerc is just awful.

As much as I like him, this is 100% on Chris Young. Saddles is right. His refusal to address the bullpen problem in the preseason is now costing them the division. He should have brought back Moore and signed Chafin. Both were very doable. Signing Heaney shouldn’t have prevented them from signing 2 more bullpen arms. It didn’t have to be an either/or situation.

But I’m even MORE pissed off that CY hasn’t addressed the situation now. I could maybe give him a pass for the preseason if he thought then we were still a year or two away. But this team is playing playoffs-level ball and DESERVES to be supported by the front office. Moves need to be made NOW. Whether trades or DFA’s/call-ups, the GM needs to take action today. Stop pissing away games. The starters and hitters deserve so much better than this.

He could have started Perez and finished with Dunning or Burke. He had a choice.

I do t think trades can be made now unless it is MILB or waiver claims. Am I wrong?

Encouraging from his perspective. Hope he has turned the corner

I think Hernandez did ok…..all things considered. He turned the order and dealt with trout / ohtani while only giving 1 run.

will smith just didn’t have it. He looked like a bag of shit run over twice out there.

it sucks that 3 guys ( dunning, Burke, Hernandez) all did their jobs and it was all undone by smith fucking up. It just seems like the odds of this bullpen going 3 or 4 innings in a row and getting the job done are so low on any given night. It’s a depth issue.

CY needs to act. The Astros are vulnerable due to injuries and the angels will probably fade because of a weak rotation.

I wonder if he plans to just stretch Dunning out now Maybe this is why he started
May be but I think it gives a week more rest to DeGrom. Hoping it is precaution.

In addition, Burke is all the dependable support left in the pen that has time in grade.

This is why it is better to bury Sborz for now instead of releasing him. To me he is more valuable than Kennedy. Same with LeClerc.

Get some new guys and I reserve the right to change my mind

Trades can be made, but teams are reluctant to trade away good players and admit this early they are out of it. There are teams that are so bad that that wouldn't be a problem, but they can hold you up right now because there are very few sellers.

I would have said goodbye to Sborz early last offseason.

Stuff and being able to pitch effectively are two different things. That is one of the shortcoming of depending too much on metrics.
