Fitz just made a GREAT point on KNBR...

Bum games were not competitive.

Ventura games were not competitive.

The Guthrie/Huddy game was the ONLY competitive game in the series.

In a SSS, the back ends of both teams are equal (KCs is slightly stronger, but that is only over a larger sample size)

This will be EPIC tonight

To pick a nit game 5 was pretty tight until the end.

But yes it feels like a close game tonight...then again, it's as random as it gets predicting 1 game.

Do we want Bum as a 1 or 2 inning guy tonight, or as a specialist?

We only have 2 lefties in the pen. Maybe using Bum as a LOOGY is a better strategy???

Bum is also hard to steal off of. Maybe he is brought into a 1/3, no outs, LRL due up situation...

I think if Bochy was going to skip a Starter, it would have been last night given Peavy's history vs the Royals.

Hudson has been fairly strong in the Playoffs and gave us 5 solid innings in Game 3. If we get 4 solid out of him tonight, and have the lead, are tied or within a run or two I think that is when Bochy goes to Bum. Situation will dictate.

I still think we made a nice breakthrough against Davis and Herrera in Games 4 and 5 that may help tonight. If we face them, we know we can hit them.

Go Giants!

It's official...

Perez in left tonight.

I love that move. Solid D....kid has had some nice ABs over the last couple weeks, and it leaves Ishikawa as an option against the power righties in the KC pen late in the game.

We'll see if Bochy pushes another magic button......

Go Giants!

Guess I'm in a different mode then most of you. I don't think this game will depend on Huddy or Bum or whoever we through out there. We need some damn offense to happen. If Bum was available yesterday it would have been a waste in the end .... we finished with 6 hits and 0 runs. We need to make the Royals sweat. I kept on telling myself that Ventura was definitely hittable. Maybe he was but we didn't manage to score a damn run. All I remember from the 1st Guthrie game was that I thought he was also damn hittable. Didn't quite workout that way. Putting up a 3 spot somewhere in the first 3 innings would silence the crowd and put the Royals in a 'catch up' position ....

Is there any truth to the stories that Posey may play third base next year? I believe Sandoval is gone and it does no one any good to have Susac sitting on the bench.

Further complicating the issue here is the epic failure in the WS of Peavy and Vogey. We were probably ready to pay them a combined $15 or $18 million next year. We may have to reallocate that money, perhaps to a certain free agent 3b of ours.

But I digress. I think there's a game tonight.

Sorry. Completely disagree.

The Giants punted that game in the 2nd inning. If we had a Bum-like performance from our SP, the game would have been COMPLETELY different. The hitters would not have been going up there simply going through the motions, like they were last night.

Tonight, the Giants need to score at least 1 in the first couple of innings to silence the crowd AND keep them from scoring in the first couple of innings.

Cal, get over it. It wouldn't have made any practical difference. And there's all kinds of stats saying the best pitch to hit is the first one. He just happened to hit the quintessential dp grounder, and I could have made that play, probably unassisted.

I guess we agree to disagree. These are professional ballplayers. To 'pack it in' in the 2nd inning is rather unlikely. All professionals want to excel at what they do. Every player that came to the plate wanted a hit. That's the nature of professional sports. If they had in fact packed it in ... in the 2nd inning then Bochy should have pulled all of the starters and let them rest. Hell, if they are doing nothing more then going through the motions .... why are they on the field?

A first pitch swing after the pitcher has just walkedthree batters is different than a first pitch swing leading off an inning, or seeing a reliever for the first time. That was a horrible at bat by Posey. Getting even a sac fly would have put some air in the tires. A single or double sows seeds of doubt in KC. A FPGIDP deflated a team that was already down. They did nothing after that at the plate.

Here's to a better. Night this evening.
