And yet we still hear the bitching about the Wheeler trade. It isn’t only in one direction.
Not from me we don't but yeah, people will complain no matter what they do or don't do

Wouldn't measuring by OPS be a better standard to evaluate the lineup? Sure, a guy hitting .285 looks better than a guy hitting .218 but what if their production is fairly close (not saying these two are but there can be more to a player's offensive value than average)?

Generational organization weakness. Never forget Carney’s parting words as he left the organization that all the hitters were just hackers and couldn’t be taught.

One man against a machine. It helps when the org philosophy on hitting is consistent. I get the feeling that the hitting coaches in the minor leagues at that time essentially taught the hitters to hack, or at least didn't bother to teach them the way that Lansford was teaching. That has got to be frustrating for a major league coach to get guys to do something different than what the same org had taught them or did not bother to teach them.
Of course, I think that was the same team that had Shawon Dunston on the coaching staff and he was essentially teaching counter to what Lansford wanted. If I remember correctly, there was a quote from Dunston that was, in effect, to hack and patience is pathetic.

Here are today's OPS:

.767
.740
.789
.761
.617
.533
.721
.489
.503

2 above (barely) above average hitters (Yaz and Lee)
3 average hitters (Chappy, Wilmer, Fitz)
0 below average
1 poor (Adames)
3 horrible (LWJ, Bailey, Matos)

The one guy, besides Nick Lowery, who could fix our hitting woes:

Iirc, Carney was the hitting coach in ‘08??? Dunston was on the staff at about that point, I believe.

LWJ is just about done. As soon as Jerar is back, I think he becomes #forevergiant

Jerar must have suffered some kind of setback because he's only played two games with Sacramento, on May 10th and 11th. Not appearing in a game in two weeks is not a good sign.

Averaged just 2.2 runs per game over its last nine games.

Not going to cut it. Who gets tossed? Who gets added? Is it talent? Philosophy? Approach? Coaching? Or just a prolonged slump?
Patrick Bailey is the worst hitter on the team by OPS+ (41!). Do the Giants get a better hitting catcher and make Bailey the backup?

Next on the list is Luis Matos (49). Seems like he needs to get sent down to AAA. Maybe bring up one of those hot hitters in AAA . . . oh wait, the Giants don't have one.

Then there is LaMonte Wade, Jr. Hey, maybe the Giants should give Villar a shot at playing 1st . . . oh wait, too late.

Christian Koss has an OPS+ of 67 (and is the 4th player from the bottom, yikes!). I guess Wisely may be better. Koss has plenty of option years.

Sam Huff's 72 OPS+ makes his better technically better than Bailey but, with his defensive reputation, that is a pretty putrid number. Maybe Knizner is going to be replacing him soon.

Willy Adames (who is currently tied with the dearly departed Villar) is next. Uh, yeah, he's not going anywhere.

Then Casey Schmitt is the last of the below replacement level players (96 OPS+). Probably need to keep him on the bench.

The entire bench stinks offensively and there are two black holes in the lineup. Adames is pretty close to making it 3 black holes.
