Generational organization weakness. Never forget Carney’s parting words as he left the organization that all the hitters were just hackers and couldn’t be taught.
Sounds something a Corporal might say about the soldiers

We are in a heap of trouble. Maybe our hitters need to see an optometrist

Brisbee today:

Yastrzemski has cooled off. Lee has had a mostly dreadful May, although he currently has a seven-game hitting streak. Flores is still helping quite a bit, but he was never going to be the lineup savior he was in the first two weeks. The Giants’ ultra-consistent starting lineups have helped build continuity for the regulars, but it’s also put their bench in a tough spot. There are nine starters with 120 PA or more, but that leaves six reserves who aren’t seeing more than a few pitches every week. They’ve hit .193/.262/.300 in 260 PA this season.
The Giants had 1,971 plate appearances going into Monday’s game. More than a third (38.6 percent) of those PA have gone to players who are hitting at least 20 percent worse than the league average. That’s a group that includes three starters and five reserves, and Willy Adames’ .617 OPS is the best among them.

I like the lineup regularity, especially after the churn and fantasy baseball approach of FZ/Kap. But there is a point here...if the bench almost never plays they are going to be dogshit.

It's a conumdrum for sure.

There could be an overreaction to the churn approach that may come back a bit. But the problem may also be that, because the bench has hit like crap, Melvin may have an increasing reluctance to play them. But also consider this about the bench, its a very inexperienced group.

Sam Huff - Former catching prospect from the Rangers, where he never got much of a chance to show off his bat in the big leagues due to his questionable defense. He did show some flashes in 2020 and 2023 but the Rangers still kept him down most of the time.

Christian Koss - A 27 year old middle infielder who started 2024 in AA and is on his 3rd organization, he has not shown a whole lot with his bat until last year. He is here for his defense.

Casey Schmitt - Another top prospect known initially for his defense but had a meteoric rise in 2022 due to some offensive showings. He did hit decently with the Giants last year and could be the most likely candidate to do better with more playing time (he is also posting the best numbers off the bench so far).

Luis Matos - Another prospect known more for his defense but had potential offensively, he struggled in 2022 at high A but was still moved up to AA in 2023 while he hit well, moved up to AAA and continued to hit well and then got his big league debut toward the end of 2023. His big league numbers have been progressively worse from 2023 to 2024 to 2025 thus far. He is teetering on bust status.
