It wasn't indecision, it was changing reality. He saw a bad throw and started to advance to be at 3rd with two outs, then saw that the throw had been backed up and he'd be crazy to go to 3rd, so he tried to get back to the base.

Yep. This MLB, not the playground kickball game. You go or you don't and you do NOT get caught in between. Going would be aggressive. Staying would be conservative. Anything else is being stupid.
