36 in 21 ain't bad. The +/- difference is probably due to the team. They were an absolute powerhouse last year, but lots of graduations. It's basically him and Hayton now, and Hayton played a few games with the Coyotes so it was just Frost for a while.

They went 55-7-6 last year and we're a +131 as a team. This year they're 'only' 12-5-4 and +15.

Of their top 10 in points last year, only 3 of them returned. Frost (1st), Hayton (6th), and Hollowell (7th). Frost leads the team in points again. Finished 27 points clear of 2nd last year, he's 15 points up on 2nd place Hayton right now (granted Hayton missed 7 games).

So what is honestly holding Frost back from being on this team? All I can point to is experience but shit he isn't a scrub? He's 19 and 6.0' and 185lbs which isn't little (Mckinnon was exactly same everything when he came up) so what are we waiting for? I'm probably missing something there but don't have the energy to research it lol. I just want to see this kid on our team already! If he is as good as advertised wouldn't he be another big time player teams would have to plan for, add him to our 2nd or third line and I don't think a lot of teams are that deep to cover all of them? Who knows? Obviously not me...

Also does any body here think we should take a stab at Nylander since we have some cap space? Not sure what he's looking for but...

I would absolutely love to go after Nylander. I'm not sure if Hextall has looked into it or not?

Only one goal vs a 40 yr old goalie in Bobby Lou? Other than that, for the most part only penalized times.

Oo man. If they can find that 3rd period gear more often we’d be having some fun this year. One of the best periods they’ve played all season, just couldn’t cash in. Luongo was a beast.

Probably should’ve played some offense in the 1st or 2nd, but that 3rd was good.

Elliot was strong again I thought. That Dadonov goal was a pretty wicked shot.

Hak actually making some decent adjustments in the 3rd. Not sure Lehtera got even a shift. Sanheim played a bunch (he’s good. He should play more)

I’d certainly be interested in Nylander. It takes Sanheim+ or Ghost to get him though. And he’s going to be a big cap hit (probably > 7M).

Tough call. But I’d definitely talk about it.

I thought I read something on him a few weeks ago from a Flyers writer? Will he be a RFA after this season? I thought I read something that Hextall should submit an offer sheet? Maybe I am thinking of something else?

He’s RFA right now. But an offer sheet that he’d sign would probably be at least three 1st round picks. I’ll do more research at work tomorrow :p

Hextall would use an offer sheet, but is William Nylander worth it? So imo I think this wouldn't be terrible. I realize that it would cost us 3 1st rounders like @awaz mentioned previously, but at least we would keep our young dmen in doing so. We also have the cap space to make it difficult for the Leafs to match. That being said, somebody would probably get dealt anyway just due to having a roster spot available. Just my opinion.

Leafs are in a tight spot as Marner and Matthews are both RFA next summer. They were hoping to sign Nylander to 5million long term or a reasonable bridge deal.
Nylander wants a long term deal for at least 7 a year.

They would want a Solid young D Man to even start the conversation

So looks like it's the total sum of the dollars divided by number of years on the contract OR 5, whichever is less.

So a $7Mx7 year offer would be a $9.8M 'value' when determining the compensation.

The two tiers that would be in play:

$8.118M - $10.148M = two 1sts, one 2nd, one 3rd
> $10.148M = four 1sts

Looking at some reports, the Leafs are willing to do $6.7Mx5 and Nylander is looking for $7M+ per year.

With this research being laid out there, I'm kinda surprised someone hasn't offered a $7Mx7 deal. Back to back 61 point seasons, only 22 years old, drives play well. Two 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd would be well worth it IMO. I would much rather give that up than give up Ghost or Sanheim.

Even from just a sabotage the Leafs perspective, someone in the Eastern conference should be looking at that. IMO, the Leafs would feel like they have to match that. Given their position, entering Stanley Cup contender status, I wouldn't think they'd want just those picks in return for a guy like Nylander. They'd be tempted to match, which would put them in a tight spot with Marner/Matthews.

I wouldn't go over $10.148M value and give up 4 firsts though. No way.

I wonder if the Flyers wait to add any more big contracts until this summer though. They're going to find out a few things over the course of this year.

RFAs
Provorov
Laughton
Konecny
Sanheim

UFAs
Simmonds
Weal
Elliot
Neuvirth
Raffl

They've got plenty of space to build a team this summer and get the important guys under contract. But it would be good to know where they end up with those RFA's before committing another long term, big dollar contract out there.

So you agree with me? If prefer the offer sheet and not lose our young dmen. We can get a pick by trading someone to make room for Nylander.
