IDK man, In my opinion, Weiss, Lehtera, and Laughton/Knight have been one of the more solid lines all season, if they just had someone who could score on that line. I myself would put Simmer on that line. He's just as adept skating around and watching from there.

That's the thing though. The Weise-Lehtera-Knight line looked fine possession wise last night. But did they generate a scoring chance? Or even a shot on goal? They seemed to have the puck in the offensive zone more often than not, which is great, but did they ever get the puck off the boards and be actually dangerous? Or did they do anything to help energize the team? They got the puck in and cycled around the boards back and forth, dominating possession in a mostly head to head with the B's 4th line. BORING.

I want a 4th line out there that can either outscore other 4th lines, be trusted to shut down 2nd or 3rd lines at least, or blow some people up and get under their skin. The Weise-Lehtera-Knight line, while it looked pretty good, brought essentially nothing to the table for me last night. If all they can do is dominate possession against another 4th line, what good are they really?

OK but wouldn't you want more experience with how far the core has come on this team? Seems like it would take him awhile to get acclimated to coaching.
I think he would make a solid asst. He has the cred and the face that NHL players would listen and adapt to his teachings imo. I just threw that out as a partial joke anyway. He may not have any interest in coaching for all I know?

That was my point for Simmer lol, I agree they posses the puck constantly so put a sniper out there with them.

PP coach maybe? Couldn't be worse than Lappy.

Eh. I love Simmonds but he does nothing for me at 5 on 5 these days. He's not going to generate scoring chances, he finishes rebounds and cleans up the garbage at the net. He's gotta be on lines with creative guys that can get the puck to the net.

Without Raffl and JvR I don't think the Flyers have enough depth to have a 4th line that can put together enough offensive ability to come out on the positive goal differential against other bottom 6 lines. With a healthy lineup, when you can realistically put Laughton/Raffl/Vorobyev/Weal together in some combination, that's a 4th line that can outscore people.

And right now I wouldn't trust anyone on the Flyers to shut down anybody.

So you're left with a havoc/chaos ensuring 4th line as your only option IMO. So bring on Goulbourne and NAK!

I agree, I was just more being sarcastic when I said move him there because 5 on 5 he's the same player as Weiss or Lehtera IMO. I'm sure we could fit as better scorer on that line though truth be told.

Reading the articles JBM and mall posted about coaching candidates..

Bylsma, Ruff, and Capuano are right out.

Dallas Eakins, maybe. His tenure in Edmonton isn't inspiring, but that organization is a shit show.

Todd Nelson, probably my choice reading about him. Seems to want to paly an aggressive game. I think this is a great quote {“Here’s the thing. People will tell me I couldn’t play that way in the NHL and I did it in Edmonton. I talked to the players, I asked them, ‘How do you feel about this?’ The players like it. They’re aggressive, they’re on their toes.}. Could make all the difference for a team that just looks disinterested. That being said, would be a pretty quick jump from the Stars who just hired him as an assistant.

Muse I think is too inexperienced.

Knoblach, hasn't exactly inspired as the PP coach in Philly. Got a lot out of Giroux, Couturier, and Voracek last year I suppose. I might not be totally against it, but he wouldn't be my primary choice.

Keefe, maybe. He seems highly regarded.

I firmly believe you have to play a system that the players want to play or that they at least believe in. Right now I think we're seeing what happens when a system players don't like, doesn't work. Gliding around with an 'I told you so' attitude in regards to the coaching staff. If you want to play a shutdown, defensive, risk-averse system, it better work or it's going to get ugly. You can blame the players' attitude all you want, in the end the coach is the 'boss' and they should do what they're told. But that's not going to make them buy in any more. If it doesn't win them hockey games, they stop believing, they stop playing hard. Just a fact of society.

Get a guy in that plays a system that is fun to play and you'll see a more energized group of players. Look at what happened when the Flyers got rid of Stevens and brought Laviolette in. Major energy boost. It might be a shit show because the Flyers defense and goaltending can be suspect (to be friendly), but maybe a little more energy overcomes some of that.

But above everything else.. that PK..

I searched back through old threads, the first post I can easily find about Lappy sucking as the PK coach was in January of 2016. Twenty sixteen. We noticed how much he sucks 2 and a half years ago. What is up with Hak and Hextall not seeing this? How can they keep him in charge of this area of the game?

The players might suck, all 12-14 of them we've tried in 4 years under lappy's direction. But they CONSISTENTLY leave the guy at the net alone and he scores on them. If Hagg and AMac, the two guilty parties last night, consistently left that guy alone (as they do) and the coaches directed them not to, they would not be on the PK any more. It is beyond clear to me that Lappy coaches them that defending the cross ice pass through the slot is more important than defending the guy at the front of the net. You can see it on the goal last night, Hagg leaves DeBrusk to put his stick in slot passing lane. AMac stays where he is to provide extra defense of that pass and completely ignores DeBrusk. He's got 3 hours and 22 minutes to do whatever he wants in front of the net because the Flyers defense is three states away from him. He could've taken his skates off and put them on his head, spun around 4 times, and still had time to shoot the puck.

I know with every fiber in my being that Lappy wrong on that and the numbers prove it. How long will it take to get rid of this guy? DEFEND THE GUY AT THE NET!

Well, for tomorrow's game, I am going with Gritty for the 1st goal. Figure he has as good a chance of anyone else at this point.

Pretty sad state of our team when these players have been one of our better lines for most of the season

You cant fix this PK without penalty killers. The players we put out there to kill penalties dont sell out. By sell out i mean dive in front of a shot, skate as fast as you can to a chip into the corner and just simply be a man out there. It starts from the top down on this team where everyone thinks they are a skill player. We have no grit except for our mascot.

Hexy has put together a team full of pussies and it shows on the ice. We dont hit we dont fight we just have no heart. The core of this team needs to be shaken up. Its now the third coach in a row getting fired because of the same thing non motivated players

I'd be surprised if he,s not gone by the weekend. He obviously can't motivate these guys, but as someone else said,Gee,Simmer,Voracek, aren't leading by example.

Gotta think Hextall's leash is getting shorter too
Hextalls leash should be short. IMO he is way overrated just like most of his moves.

One thing for sure is, I agree about leadership or lack of on this team. Time for Roo to give up that C, Maybe Coots?
Honestly how can anyone suggest this?

The guy played his heart out last season after finally being healthy. Finished only behind Conor McDavid in points and dragged this team into the playoffs.

This has nothing to do with Giroux . This is all about coaching and system at this point.

Some stats that stood out:

Only 15 hits-team of pussies
Laughton 12 minutes in penalties and covered up like a lady when challenged
Patrick : 10 wins and 2 losses on faceoffs and got hit in the face with another stick
Elliot: .917 save pct
