Passing for 4000 yards in a season didn't really become a thing until the 1980s.

Here are all twenty-four QBs drafted #1 overall since 1980. Only three of them passed for 4000 yards as a rookie. Without looking it up who do you think they were?

And will Caleb Williams join them?

2023 Bryce Young
2021 Trevor Lawrence
2020 Joe Burrow
2019 Kyler Murray
2018 Baker Mayfield
2016 Jared Goff
2015 Jameis Winston
2012 Andrew Luck
2011 Cam Newton
2010 Sam Bradford
2009 Matthew Stafford
2007 JaMarcus Russell
2005 Alex Smith
2004 Eli Manning
2003 Carson Palmer
2002 David Carr
2001 Michael Vick
1999 Tim Couch
1998 Peyton Manning
1993 Drew Bledsoe
1990 Jeff George
1989 Troy Airman
1987 Vinny Testaverde
1983 John Elway

He could make it close (not as much of an accomplishment with 17 games), but I doubt it.

I was 2 for 3. The player I was most sure about I was wrong with. He only played 10 games as a rookie.

I’m pretty sure Cam Newton and Jameis Winston got to 4,000 as rookies. Maybe Andrew Luck got there?

I don’t believe there’s more than one #1 pick who has thrown for 4K.

Stroud got within striking distance of the rookie record last year. But he wasnt a #1.

Stroud was the #2 overall pick not #1.

I predict Caleb will become the first Bear to throw for 4,000 yards this season - even if he doesn’t look great in doing so.

I think Caleb will get it done AND still be a disappointment.

Only need to average 236 yards a game.
I don’t think it’s possible to set a franchise record as a rookie and be a disappointment.

27 more passing TDs and he’ll tie the Bears franchise record for a season. Doubt he gets there either.

The Bears have had such awful QB play I think it is possible to get to 4,000 yards and be something of a disappointment given how much is expected of Caleb.

This is like the 105th season of Bears football.

Don’t understand how he could be disappointing as a rookie if he does something nobody has done in franchise history.

And only three rookies have ever done.

Expectations are very high for him so if he doesn’t look that impressive and doesn’t win a lot it could be seen as disappointing. More than 3 rookies have thrown for 4,000 yards, only 3 rookie #1 overall picks have thrown for 4,000 yards, and I looked it up, I guessed correctly - Newton, Luck and Winston.

I remember Cam Newton go over 400 yards in 2 games in September, I'm pretty sure he got over 4000. I know Stafford and Eli missed too many games and didn't get there, Peyton had so many INT's that he was throwing a ton, but I don't think he got to 4000. Baker, Kyler, Burrow and Lawrence I believe all came close? Luck had instant success I remember. Winston I think threw for a bunch of yards and almost as many picks as Peyton?

I'll say Newton, Luck and Winston all over 4k.

If he stays injury free I think k Caleb can get there. He's got more weapons than any rookie QB since like Kurt Warner or Marc Bulger plus 17 games.

I think he can find to get the yards record and be a disappointment. A couple of game-losing meltdowns and a lack of real accountability plus self-serving stat-padding will get it done.
