WTF? Young played in the USFL and then played a couple of years at Tampa Bay and was sacked 47 times one of those seasons. 47 TIMES!!!! That's a guy who paid his dues.

I have no problem with Jimmy G but comparing him to Steve Young is beyond a reach. Apparently Young was begging the org to play him at another position if he wasn't going to be a qb when he was sitting behind a healthy Montana.

I didn't realize they won 13 games in 1994. I know they struggled a bit early on in the season and there was the sideline tantrum by Steve Young towards George Seifert during the Philly game. They were 13-3 during the 1981 Super Bowl year also.

Good up until 6. Steve Young was no game manager. Blasphemy to compare the two especially being a Niner fan

Yes, when you look at Steve Young's entire career. People, even many younger 49er fans, don't remember what Steve Young was like early in his career at SF. There were fans that would have been happy with a game manager. Steve Young struggled and almost everyone was calling for Steve Young to get benched for Steve Bono.

The man waited forever to be the starter, but I had never heard that before. I do remember reading that Bill Walsh convinced Young that the trade from TB to SF would be great for him because Montana was hurt and that he could be the starting QB for the 1987 season. However, when he got to his first Niners training camp, Joe looked great, and Steve turned to Walsh and said, "he doesn't look real hurt," and Walsh just shrugged his shoulders. LOL.
