Hope you are right. In the case of Odor we might have to eat a large chunk of his contract and get minimal back in return. Hell the same could be said about Choo too. It all depends on how much cash the Rangers add to sweeten the deals
We are choked till Odor and Choo are gone. Do not think it will happen but we need to get rid of both at all cost.

Maybe Offering to eat 11M of Choo's 21M and from 15 to 17.5M of Odor's contract would get it started. Can se some team taking Choo but don't see any jumping on the Odor plan

Odor is not going anywhere this offseason. Maybe Mazara and Choo.

I think Odor starts at 2B at the beginning of every year following a year where he puts up a great 6 to 8 weeks. That probably means he starts until his contract is up. If he hasn't proven to the FO who he is by now I doubt they ever get it.

I still say, if Teixeira can change positions while coming up through the system then Jung and Apostle can too. Or, one could change positions and the other could be traded. I know we drafted Wendzel as well, but one of the three guys is probably going to fail before getting here. One falls by the wayside, one gets traded and one changes positions if we sign a guy like Rendon.

Even if we sign a #1 like Cole and a stud 3b like Rendon I don't see us competing in 2020 but I do see us getting on the right side of .500 and making strides toward competing in 2021 and beyond.

But my gut says that we are very unlikely to actively pursue any of the stud pitchers or positional players that are going to be available this off-season. I just don't think the ownership has the whattofore to do it

I agree 100% even if we have a great offseason. The intra-divisional competition is too great. Both the A’s and Astros are really good. I’m talking 100 wins a year good.

im still expecting much much better than drew freaking smyly and asdrubal Cabrera tho. That’s not going to cut it.

You're not hoping enough
They are not going to give him away at this point. Despite reading Rangers now willing to consider it a sunk cost. He probably starts this year but has a much shorter leash.

Honestly there is more hope vs realism in moving Choo. We need to get more right handed. Perhaps that is the test in how you deal with a sunk cost

Putting Solak at 3B is a mistake in the short time the Rangers put him there he was uncomfortable and out of place. Maybe if we send him down to AAA and let him play every game there at 3rd he might be ready by the All-Star break but tossing out there at the MLB level every day would be a mistake.
Odor needs to go and Solak at 2B is the answer

I'm taking total credit for this 'new-found' positivity!.........Honestly, really like the thought of AAA and see what he turns into as a 3rd baseman there! :suds:

FWIW.....do keep in mind if we got rid of both Choo & Odor, we're getting rid of our #1 HR/RBI guy, and I believe our #2RBI man, plus BY FAR OUR best guy to work-the-pitcher/consistently get on base, and with one of the best BA for the recent past......Not saying it shouldn't happen, but let's hope this doesn't fall into the old 'be careful what you ask for' situations.

And PLEASE don't point out the warts of the above twosome......That pony has been rode to death!

FWIW..... Our #1hr/RBI guy has been on the IL allowing Odor to take that position. But the issue is not with the so called "warts". It is cleaning up the roster so as to make room for others. Solak may go to AAA. OF is a glut and we need relief there and Choo is not in our future. We may be forced to trade young players because of blundered contracts and bad mgr decisions that make it difficult to deal the subject twosome.

Tim Bogar is the Nats 1B coach. The Nats are going to the World Series.

Proof that the Rangers should have hired Tim Bogar.

How Winn rewarded Rangers after struggling early in first taste of professional ball

"It started off worse than I expected,” Winn said earlier this month while participating in the Futures Camp at Globe Life Park.

“After I got adjusted to everything and got used to the situation up there, I felt like I did a lot better and I felt like I finished up pretty strong in the second half. That was really good for me.”

Winn said that the was giving hitters too much credit early on and felt the need to be perfect with every pitch. That led to a 9.35 ERA after six starts and the realization that wasn’t doing the things that made him successful during his prep days.

He went on the attack, using all five of his pitches. The results followed, as he went 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA in his final 12 starts. Overall, he went 4-4 with a 4.46 ERA in 68 2/3 innings, and he issued only five home runs.

“It was like, ‘Why wasn’t I doing that to start with,’” he said.

Winn throws two fastballs, with the four-seamer topping out at 95, but he commands both of them. He throws his heater up and down, in and out, and complements it with two breaking pitches and a changeup that could become a plus offering.

Early on, “it was just a normal, typical 19-year-old,” Hickory manager Matt Hagen said. “His last three months of work, it’s a really good stat line. The way he finished was really good.”

The Rangers have never been shy about pushing their young prospects, though general manager Jon Daniels said the brakes have been tapped in most cases recently. Winn, though, came with the experience of pitching for at prep powerhouse Orange Lutheran Highas a senior.

Winn was an exception to the new lower speed limits on the Rangers’ farm.

And he’s good.

“He’d been in some pressure spots before, and we though he could handle the transition,” Daniels said. “From a stuff and a command standpoint, he had the weapons on the mound to do it. The first month or two, it was a challenge. He really made that adjustment, and that’s what we want to see all the time.

“We want we put guys at a level that ultimately it going to challenge them and then make an adjustment to it. He did that, so that part was pretty rewarding.”

I feel much better about our young pitching, as a whole, coming up, than I do our young hitters as a whole. I guess that is why I am in favor of spending our top FA $$$ on high-end hitters as opposed to high-end pitchers.

Potential Core Rangers heading into 2020
Gallo
Elvis
Willie
Santana
Trevino. Starter or backup
Solak and even Odor

1B 3B and CF wide open. 3 positions we did not figure out in 2019. Do we fill from within or from trade or FA? Do we let same old guys fill these spots? We have money but will there be money spent
