It is a crystal clear reminder of what makes Augusta so special.

You get what you tolerate.

Yep...start making a couple of examples and you'll trim that shit down in a hurry. Half the time in this tourney, guys were screaming before the putter even made contact.

They ain't New Yorkers...them's Long Islanders

Which would make you think they would be more civil....but it wasn't Shinnecock.

Bottom line...any and all New Yorkers that wanted to go were there.

Neener neener neener. Jesus Christ, was it the run away win all the sycophants were predicting before the weekend?

At the end of the day it probably kept a few viewers around more when he hit the skids and made 4 bogeys in a row. FWIW, I knew DJ wouldn't take -8 to the clubhouse so I never felt anyone but Koepka would win.

I get what you're saying, but a proven major winner has a 7-8 shot lead after 36 and 54, what else can the media really talk about?

Clearly the Sunday pressure and the conditions were a factor in deciding this tournament.

Sunday...coming into the final round I think there were at least 4 players at -5 and another 3 or 4 at -4...only one of these players shot under par on Sunday....DJ.

Conditions...high wind is a golfer's worst nightmare and winds were gusting up to 30+ mph at times, DJ airmailing the green on 17 with a 5i into the wind...hole was playing 197 or something....both DJ and Koepka came up woefully short on the approach on the par 5 13th.

No doubt there was some choke factor going on (he said it himself) with the way Brooks was driving the ball. It would've been interesting to see the finish if DJ has been able to finish at -8, but considering none of the contenders were able to get thru those final holes without losing strokes to par tells me that the course was winning more than Kopeka was choking it away.

Nah, he wasn't great yesterday, but he was good enough to claim it...again.
I'm glad

When you won it doesn't matter how you did it. Everyone was making bogies out there yesterday. Half of the field shot 74 or worse. Conditions were tough. History won't care that he won by 2 instead of 7.
True. No one will remember his back nine collapse in 10 years; just that he won.

One of the worst crowds I’ve ever seen. New Yorker’s suck

Not anymore than people anywhere else. Their assholes are just more vocal and much louder.

Sorry about the political lean in the golf forum... It's just so appropriate I couldn't resist.

The NY golf fans are practically in Ryder Cup mode...that should be a fun Cup when it goes to the Black course in I think 2024.

And was played in June and july throughout the 50s and 60s. That's as far back as I remember. SO, you see, it was not always played in August. I believe though I went to the PGA in 1970 and it was in August.

I was born in late 1970s so yeah it’s been in August as far back as I can remember

When your mentality goes from aggressive badass to “I got a lead” and let’s play conservative that’s a big change. If you are going to change your mentality then yeah might be a good idea to hit more irons or 3 woods to hit fairway. But at the end of the day a great golfer is going to make his way around the course with clubs he feels confident in especially off the tee.

But that change in mentality can get you especially on a really difficult golf course.

At the end of the day, Brooks is back to back PGA champ

And let’s be honest here..

Very very difficult to maintain flawless play like that at Bethpage especially with some wind.

Greatest players in the world and only 2 were better than 2 under for the tournament. That should tell you a lot

I guess it goes hand in hand with this gambling-based obsession with constantly predicting the winner. No matter the lead, no tournament is over after the first two days.

Of course you can find examples of someone extending a big lead but there's as many who folded and lost big leads.

You're simply refusing to concede a point. Nerves got the best of Koepka and he edged out the win. It was not coincidence that all those bogeys happened in the closing holes.

So it was all nerves and nothing to do with a really difficult golf course? Cmon man look at the scores. Tough to maintain that kind of play. Look at the scores last year at Bellerive

Lol nerves are always difficult to
Check especially on a really tough track but the dude is now back to back champ at the PGA and US Open

Like I said, you can't concede a point even while conceding a point.

Bingo, how many bogeys did he make the first 64 holes?

You really are clueless here. He had a huge lead and went from aggressive to conservative trying to sit on it. He went from leaving himself great chances at birdie to just trying to leaving himself a chance to make pars or even bogeys. His mentality totally changed.

Basically Took his foot off the gas petal. Nerves are always going to play a part in any golfer. But that wasn’t the issue.

Think the Falcons Patriots Super Bowl but Brooks didn’t lose. If he loses yeah it’s a choke but he didn’t. DJ has a good round.

Lol. Goodness this course was brutal people. These guys maintaining that level of play is insane but if they don’t they choke? Cmon

Brooks score card 11-18

Bogey, Bogey, Bogey, Bogey, Par, Par, Bogey, Par.

Yea, very very tough conditions, no question.
But you can't tell me a closing stretch like that is all "conditions"

.

It’s a combo of trying to sit on a lead and course difficulty/conditions. You see it all the time in basketball or football with teams up 20 and they sit on a lead/ go into prevent D. In this case it’s a very difficult golf course where the scores will tell you the same.

You change that mentality and a little bad momentum creeps in, sometimes it’s hard to get off the bogey train. Good thing is he didn’t lose

There are many variables at play here
