I've heard that baseball wants to expand "down the road", anyone heard when "down the road" might actually be? And what cities look like strong candidates? I know Montreal is obviously a strong candidate. I'd personally like to see some more teams out west to help with travel time for the western teams. I've heard too that part of the hold up in expansion is trying to find long-term solutions for the Rays & A's. Thoughts?

I agree Montreal is at the front of the line, followed by Las Vegas, Portland, San Antonio, Charlotte, and eventually Havana and Mexico City (if Mexico can ever get it's shit together)

Montreal is in the front of the line so long as they are willing to front costs on infrastructure/stadium requirements.

Charlotte, San Antonio and then other INTL markets would be acceptable as well for me. Not so sure we don't see the Rays and A's move however if push comes to shove.

The A's and Rays definitely need to get settled before Expansion should even be considered. Therefore, I don't expect expansion anytime soon. 2030 at the earliest.

Yeah, expansion may happen down the road but not until we see a fix for Oakland and Tampa. Would love to see MLB in Montreal again though.

I still think MTL is going to someone that fixes Oakland or Tampa.

Would be a shame, but Oakland mostly did it to themselves.

Tampa definitely did it to themselves.

Unfortunately it will probably be Tampa that moves to Montreal. Nobody wants to pay for a new stadium down here. St. Pete where the Trop is now doesn't want the team to even consider Tampa but St. Pete won't put up any money for a new stadium in that area. Attendance was a problem even when the team was winning.

And they should've put it on the other side of the bridge, right?

I think that's the most ideal option but I don't think it's a necessity. Channelside where the Lightning play is a GREAT location but they're running out of room there. The fairgrounds is another option which is right at the I4 Junction which would attract the Orlando crowd in my opinion. We'll see what happens. I still think relocation is more likely than a new stadium at this point.

The Cubs do something for the first time basically ever and this guy's talking shit like they're a perennial contender.

The Mets historically are a completely inept franchise, and the Cubs have a long way to go to even reach the Mets' level of historical relevance.

They should put one in Fairfield County CT, but the Mets and Yanks would go absolutely BONKERS.

Giving up any kind of extended territory like that is stupid.

A good friend is in the heavy construction field on a global level, and he's told me that Montreal's infrastructure is a complete wreck, meaning dangerously bad. His opinion is that MLB wouldn't consider getting back in there unless some MAJOR improvements were made.

They'd probably do better than a team in CT.

Also would fit in with OP's stated desire to make travel easier on those west coast teams, despite hardly anybody living WOTM

Wouldn't Quebec be a pretty favorable political climate to get that moving though? Maybe I am just making assumptions. Any Canadians in here know anything about the infrastructure in Montreal?
