When will the ACC & SEC grow a sac and play a 9 game conference schedule?

I wish the SEC would dump divisions so Tennessee can play more West teams but I also think 4 OOC games and 8 Conference Games is the best model. Basically 75% of games are against your league.

If you do less than 4 OOC games, it really doesn't allow you to get out and play more. Sure, the teams schedule a few pushovers for "preseason" games but it also eliminates chances for big OOC matchups when you reduce the number of OOC games.

We beat Ole Miss. We then lost some key defensive players the next 2 weeks.

And poor ol' Jimbo has no backups. "Man down, next man up!"

It happens so I'm not sure what you mean by vaunted defense.

With all the dripping sarcasm it so richly deserves...

We got rolled by Louisville - a damn good team.

Ranked very closely to Tennessee, I hasten to add...

L'ville is averaging over 650 yards a game.

Yeah, but most of that was against Cupcakis Extremis...FSU has better athletes than Syracuse, Marshall, and Mighty Charlotte...

Florida has beaten FSU once since 2009 and lost 3 in a row! And UF had one of the top defenses in the country last year.

Now we're talking about Florida? The difference, young Jedi, is that VT doesn't have anything approaching the triple digit ranked "offenses" those Mighty Gatas had since 2011. Indeed, if one compares the "offenses" of Florida against the rest of the SEC since 2010, we'd be at or near the bottom. That is titanic suckitude, especially considering the talent we have...

So earlier you said VT was one of the top teams in the ACC, but now you are saying they can't hang with Clemson.

Well damn, not being able to hang with Clemson does it mean that VT is mediocre or middle of the pack. Lots of SEC teams are near the top in the conference, but it doesn't mean they can hang with Alabama. FWIW, I doubt FSU will be able to hang with Clemson this year, either...

Because they rolled UNC in a monsoon.

More than just that, but that's OK. We're optimistic. Cautiously optimistiche, but optimistiche nonetheless...

I didn't say anywhere that FSU was legit - and legit I mean like has a legit shot at the title. Something UF doesn't know much about these days.

Yeah, we have sucked for six years. Maybe seven. This all runs in cycles...

I like talking trash and am very sarcastic. Just giving you a hard time

No worries, my friend. I can take it. Can dish it out as well. But I prefer talking football with knowledgeable posters. You among them....

FSU never felt like a rival to me, because I went to Florida at the beginning of the Pell Era, when he owned you. You can imagine how a Nole fan who attended FSU from 1987-2000 would feel about the Gators as well, when you owned us.

Again, these things run in cycles. For a stretch, you suck. For another stretch, we suck. Rinse and repeat. For the past four years, VT sucked, and their solution was eerily similar to FSU's solution. Get rid of their legendary head coach that put them on the map but stayed entirely too long. Hopefully (a Jupiter-sized hopefully), Justin will revive the Hokies as Jimbo did for the Noles. Either way, it's ALL good, not only for the ACC, but for CFB to have quality teams...:suds:

Agree about VT and Tennessee playing regularly. Our campuses are so close. It would make a great OOC rivalry.

I think it would be an ideal rivalry, and the game could be held at Bristol every year. For VT, the only more perfect annual match-up would be Texas A&M, as befits the last two major schools that have an active Corps of Cadets. Imagine the pageantry...

But Tennessee would be a tremendous choice for an annual OOC rival. Two strong programs, two passionate fan bases, three hours apart, meeting at Bristol. Can't get much more ideal than that...

Well, if Boise State buckled down and joined a P5 conference or go Indy while having a P5 schedule, then we could include ya more in our conversations...

Well, you're a G5 school, so apparently, that means you shouldn't be on any P5 schools schedule.

I tried calling the Big 12 when they first announced the expansion, they didn't answer me

We need a better TV contract to pull it off, it's very difficult to do BYU has a nice schedule and all but they're struggling to maintain it, there's a chance if they don't get added to the Big 12 that they might give up and join the Mountain West again. Navy gave it up and joined the American.

Notre Dame is really the only one that can do it these days, I wish it was like the old days where you could pull it off for years.

Since 3 threads on the same topic is our new norm, I'm just going to leave this here.

I like the 4 OOC games. I don't see any reason for the P5 conferences to have a larger monopoly than they already have in CFB. Just the basic SOS works when needing to compare teams for the playoffs or bowl games. It's good for these smaller programs to get a big paycheck and play in an atmosphere they wouldn't have otherwise. With all that said, based off the past 20 or so years, I think it would make sense to have the winner of the SEC championship get an automatic playoff bid and let all the rest of the teams fight for the final 3 spots.

The reason programs get crap for G5 schools on their schedule is because they never schedule the good ones, I mean there's a few times where Georgia Southern or a Mac team unexpectedly becomes good and stuns a top team. Several SEC teams like to schedule New Mexico State, Eastern Michigan or whatever programs are in their first or 2nd year in FBS for the easiest win possible. I mean when's the last time New Mexico State or Eastern Michigan didn't have a game against a SEC program?

There's a good reason for or against 9 game schedules

Reason for are that it would allow for more cross-divisional matchups in the oversized ACC and SEC and some programs won't have to wait like 5 years to play each other again.

Reason against are that the G5 vs P5 games can provide for some fun upsets and you can't take those out, even if some programs only chose the most hapless G5 programs possible.

That dude is permanently butthurt when it comes to me.

Wait until he starts trying to claim I'm not a real Alabama fan and never lived in Alabama.

I knew it..

Tennessee had Appalachian State and Ohio on their schedule this year. We have played Fresno State, Marshall (when they were good), MTSU, Western Kentucky, etc.

In fact, I think the SEC usually does schedule the tougher mid-majors. Several SEC schools have played Boise for example. WKU, Troy, Ohio, Southern Miss, Fresno State, Marshall, UCF, East Carolina, etc.

I think Alabama would take a game with Boise St next year if Boise St would take a payday game the way other mid-majors do.

However, Boise St wants to be treated like a P5, and it's not worth it to most schools.

For both teams 2013...coincidentally the same year they quit being whipping boys for PAC-12 and B1G teams, In Easterns case, it ended a 4 year stretch of playing 2 B1G teams a year.

Not to worry though, the PAC and the B1G have moved on to to conquer the great state of Nevada, UNLV and Nevada appear to be the new flavor of the month.

Now that the SEC has 14 teams, I think it's definitely time to move to a 9 game conference schedule.

With an 8 game schedule, 6 games are from your division and another is always your cross division rival.

Teams in the same conference shouldn't go 5+ years without playing each other.

Georgia has yet to play Texas A&M since they joined the SEC, and unless the two teams meet in SEC title game, they won't meet until 2019.

and we've played A&M twice, part of that was squeezing them in the schedules the first two years before they set up the rotation though

i wouldn't mind 9 conference games, but the SEC and ACC will change when they see some benefit from it. Up to now i guess they don't see any
