Your not getting it. Fowler got 15.3 signing bonus Bosa is offered 17 mill. 17 is more then 15. :L

And you're acting like SD deserves kudos and is giving him more out of the goodness of their hearts. They aren't.

It's not a big deal, yet somehow it's a sticking point that's keeping Bosa from signing. So someone must think it's a big deal.
yes Bosa and his agent. Just go play. Live your dream. i wish I can live out my dream for 17 mill plus whatever amount of other money he will get.

Yes its not like they offered lower amount. Then I could understand Bosa argument.

Clearly the chargers do too since Bosa agreed to take the money split if they got rid of the offset language.

I said both parties are being dumb about it but if it helps SD out why not do it. It doesnt hurt Bosa. SD already given u more then last years #3 pick so be grateful.
They have to give him more money! Do you understand that these picks are slotted and it goes up every single year? Why do you think Bosa and the Chargers have already agree on the amount? It's because there's nothing to negotiate.

Do you remember how before the current CBA, top players would hold out quite frequently? How lots of them would miss some of camp, some would even miss a few games? That's because they were negotiating these mega contracts.

So when they came up with the new cba in 2011, they wanted to make it so these guys that had never played a down weren't making more than veterans who had proven themselves. So the amount and number of years were predetermined.

The Chargers aren't being generous with Bosa by offering him more than what Fowler got: they had to offer him more.

And the Chargers. The offsets don't matter, right? That's what you said. So just agree to it, Chargers, and get your third pick signed.

Maybe it helps them out a little.

that is a fair question: Hasnt anyone asked the chargers why it matters. In Bosa Case it doesnt matter but Maybe it matters for the chargers to spread it out a little. Bosa loses no money but might help SD out. Be a team player Bosa.

a fair counter to offset would be like a 500k bonus for sacks 2, 4, , 6, 8 etc. for each year fo the contract.

The offset is not a certainty to kick in so why would the team agree to this bonus structure...I contend if Bosa avg. 4-5 sacks a yr...i.e. was a fairly avg DE...he would cash every dime of this contract.

But...to use a real contract that has offset language in it.

Zek Elliott...4/$24.9/$16.3B/$24.5G

His deferred $16.3mil signing bonus is paid over a yr let's say so I'm not factoring that annualized for the cap

1. $450k base...if released after this season he's owed $8.1 mil
2. $1.5mil base...if released after this season he's owed $6.5 mil
3. $2.7mil base...if released after this season he's owed $3.8 mil
4. $3.8mil base...he becomes a FA after this season

So another team interested in picking him up after year 1...say they offer $2mil for 1 season...DAL is still on the hook for $6.1$...the player can't collect $8.1 from DAL AND the $2mil from the new team., and so forth for each of the following seasons.

As I understand it, the players agreed to this in order to get more of the guaranteed cash up front...the teams wanted to protect as much of the back end of the cash as possible should they release the player and they signed somewhere else...if they never sign with another team the player still gets all of the guaranteed money.

If I've missed something or got something wrong, please chime in to correct me but from my understanding...this is the layman terms of the offset language

Exactly so why fight about it. Bosa just go play. Thats why SD has the upper hand. They are giving him max. Like I said before be grateful for what you have.

At this point its time to fish or cut bait on both the Chargers and Bosa camps

With everything that has happened if I am Bosa its time to buy an insurance policy and go into next years draft no way I would want to play in San Diego now
Maybe the Chargers would trade him then or Spanos can spite his team and fans and let him go for no compensation at all

Just a thought

Two way street.

Both sides can gain if the player outperforms.

Rather than just the team having an out.

Its not a bad deal. SD cant give anymore. Whats more then a Max contract? SD offered a Max with a side kicker that doesnt affect Bosa. makes no sense. Whatever thank god he isnt on my team.

Who cares if he gets Cut he still gets 17 mill. LOL

Hey, purguy! Great news, we've decided to give you the job! What's that? Oh no, we can't give you the same deal as all of those other people we hired. No, it doesn't matter that everyone else is getting them, we have a special deal for you that just isn't quite as good. What do you mean you want to be treated like everyone else? Why don't you just be grateful for what we're offering? Aren't you a team player? We're trying to run a successful business here, lots of far less qualified people who would be crap at your job would be more than happy to take it for what we're offering you!

Stop talking about the money. It's not about how much money they are offering him. We can't get anywhere in this discussion until you stop bringing that up.

Yes it does. LOL Just to help you out here is last years #3 pick and he was a defensive player.

Fowler signed a fully guaranteed four-year, $23.5 million contract, with a $15.3 million signing bonus. His Signng bonus is spread out in 4 years.

Dante Fowler Jr.

Bosa is getting 17 mill. SD has a strong offer.

It's a good offer imo as well...but..the Jags and Rams are two teams noted to relax the offset language, in turn often have longer deferment periods.
