Still don't see any of these meeting the criteria of what Boren said OU fans want to see.

“In other words, our fans want to see our teams play against great teams. They don’t want to see them play mediocre teams.”

The OU fans I know don't think it meets that definition for sure. They have been happy as hell that their beloved Sooners have been scheduling schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, etal. They tell me those are the type of teams they want to see.

If USC, Texas, OU, tOSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Florida State, joined BYU as independents and agreed to play each other every year in football...there might be just a little bit of demand for watching those games.

Eventually I think you could see something like that. Big money programs just break away.

Sorry guy, but the 90's and Osborne aren't coming back. NU had better beg the B1G to allow them to recruit unlimited dumbfuck partial qualifiers the way the Big 8 allowed it....
Since 1998, the year after Dr. Tom retired:

teja$ 169 - 82

NU 158 - 76

THAT WAS DURING THE GOLDEN AGE FOR teja$. And you only won 11 more games over 18 years. LOL at teja$...

And I am sure you don't want to talk about the last 6 years, you know, since Mack Brown retired.

teja$ 41 - 35

NU 53 - 27

Nebraska has won 12 more games than teja$ has in the last 6 years. Let me state that again. Nebraska has won 12 more games than teja$ has in the last 6 years. Do you see where I am going with this?
LOL at teja$... again...

Sorry guy, the Oughts and Brown aren't coming back.:pound:

This is a sure sign that TEXAS capitulated to OU's constant sales pitch.
OKLAHOMA wants to leave. They needed TEXAS to give in as well.

OU & Texas
1) stockpile the league with dreck, because who cares at this point
2) r*pe the new desperate members for cash in horrible deals to bleed whatever cash is available
3) challenge the GOR early thanks to new member arguments and leave to the BIG or PAC

I am not even sure why these other schools would even join at this point.
They are going to be exploited short term with zero long term benefits.

It is a big gamble to trust that the Power 5 will still keep the Big 12 without Texas and OU as members.

I'd bet the under on them taking any of the leftovers other than Kansas and West Virginia. I mean, who really wants Iowa State, Okie Lite, Tech, TCU, Baylor and K-State?

If it's G5's (and I think it prob is) and we are going the cultivating route and considering regional rivalries made CFB what it is ( or was ) then IMO the best the Big12 can get is:

Cincy- instant regional rivalry in conference. We have some history, some good games, and fight for the same recruits. Many WVU fans do NOT want Cincy and Cincy fans can't stand that the WV hicks are above them in the food chain. Nice recipe for a good conference rival game.

UCF AND USF- not just one, get both. Orlando market/Tampa market , instant in state rivalry just across the football crazy state from each other, new Big12 footprint in an area (southeast) that loves its CFB. Get em both!

Houston- the Texas schools HATE the fact that UH is in the discussion. UH has a good history with the Texas schools, UH vs Texas, UH vs TCU, UH vs TT, UH vs Baylor, UH vs OU = packed house in their new stadium. Great recruiting area, restores the footprint in Texas where A&M used to be.

Pick up 4 in good football recruiting areas, cultivate the new programs. I like BYU but They are just too far away and they are not a natural hate rival for any of us so I think the shelf life for a UConn ( though I would LOVE to have their basketball teams) BYU or even Memphis wouldn't last very long, just not enough regional passion IMO.

Believe me, as an alum of a school that used to be in the conference with BYU, it would be very easy to learn to hate them. Those non drinkers and non smokers from Provo can be a real pain in the ass.

Big 12 to begin exploring expansion candidates

I think the last quote in this article.is telling....we want up and comers and stability. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes outside the box with a vcu or like in the mix. Which would really piss off all the big12ers who think the current expansion forerunners are chickenshit adds already.

I think that is too simple. Expansion means different things for different conferences.
ACC expanded to survive
Big 10/SEC expanded for money. They had the brand and diluted it for the sake of money
PAC/Big 12 need to build the brand, so taking middling programs does not really make sense to me.
Agree, the BIG got exactly what they wanted in Rutgers and Maryland, tv markets for their network. The Big12 doesn't have a network so we want good/interesting matchups for our tv money.

While I agree with you, "good/interesting matchups" are what the majority of us CFB fans seek... and why we hate the cupcake games. But Boren used the term "great teams" in describing what OU fans want to see.

Which sounds to me like they just want to move to a new conference.

Why the Florida schools? This is simple.

UCF is the LARGEST SCHOOL IN THE STATE. There is no comparison here.......I'd take that over BYU or Cincy in a heartbeat.

MUCH easier to build that program up. Too many built in advantages that the others simply don't have.

We're placing a bet on futures.......UCF with P5 money is a safer bet than anything else I've seen.

I'm not willing to bet on the 5th most popular school in there own state. That's like the Pac 12 actually taking Houston.

That's completely irrelevant.

They have the largest campus - the largest FAN BASE. Easy money. TV sets in Florida.

Don't know how you can't see the value here, it's obvious.

It's not really fair with BYU since all there players are old enough to be working on their second contract in the NFL. No team should be allowed to have 90% of their team full of married guys with multiple children. At least SEC have guys who have kids their kids at 16 and never see them.

Not to be argumentative, but I think this is far too simplistic. UCF is 1 of 5 DI football programs. FSU and Florida are already establish in the market. Miami is not a slouch either. That is a tough road to overcome. CSU only has Colorado. Money and a conference are not going to magically get them on par with Florida and FSU. They will need the money and a once in a generation type coach. I think I would rather bet on population trends and pu tmy money of CSU. They just have to compete with Colorado. It does not seem the President has athletics as a priority

Houston sounds the most logical.

However, I think you go Mountain West to get that market, and maybe go East to give West Virginia someone to be close to.

Where was Miami in the pecking order before the 80s? You think Miami was prioritizing athletics?

it can be done, and they are PROOF of that.....with a small school to boot. There's more than enough talent to go around. We aren't trying to compete with UF and FSU......we're talking about building a power team in a better area for talent, money and TV sets.
