I am afraid this team has fallen to the temptation of thinking they can coast because of the big lead they had. I hope that is not the case. The offense is what bothers me. The pitching could have been expected to suffer with the injuries.
The offense is bothering you?!?! Before tonight, they had scored 45 runs in their last 9 games. Is averaging 5 runs a game not good enough? They're supposed to score 7-8 runs a night because their pitchers suck?

So the fact that he was nowhere near this bad last year and is now costing us games within the first few innings each outing means nothing? You guys are acting like we just pulled some guy off the street and are being unreasonable for expecting even remotely decent outings. He is a professional pitcher capable of much better than this, I don't care how "not that good" he is. He just broke the all-time pitch count record for a Rangers pitcher not finishing 5 innings. He's not just kind of bad or having one bad outing. I don't boo random bad performances. But this is historically bad, so much so that he doesn't even deserve to wear the jersey.

Furthermore, plenty of pro athletes have publicly stated that they "would have booed us too" for awful performances. I don't get the whole "don't boo" stuff. Are you afraid of hurting his feelings? It doesn't mean you hate him or aren't supporting the team. Are fans not allowed to say "unacceptable" in such a manner? When is it ok to boo? Never?
When a player doesn't give the effort or has a terrible attitude then I have no problem with booing him. If he just isn't any good then no I don't get booing him.

It is highly conceivable JD can't find a pitcher to trade for this trade deadline and we're stuck with one of these guys for awhile. Maybe the season. Everyone is looking for starters. I never thought I'd be looking forward to Holland coming back. Whenever.

To be fair some of those runs were scored in games that we were way behind on. 17-5, 12-5 and 11-6 loses which happened in 3 of our last 5 games. Rather sad all the way around.

2 hits in 7 innings against Duffy and company does bother me a whole lot. They scored well in Boston that is true.

But do you honestly think Chi Chi is so bad that it is unreasonable to expect him to have an ERA under 8.00? That's what I don't get here. I know he's not great. I don't expect even good performances from him. But this guy pitched at the ML level last year with halfway decent numbers. To me, that says he IS capable of at least keeping the team in the game for more than 1 inning. That's all I'm asking for. Awful performance followed up by awful performance followed up by historically bad performance isn't above some booing, or at least it shouldn't be.

Tonight the offense has been awful. But they have been quite good during this whole downturn over the last 7-10 days. They're not the problem at all.

And I'm hard on Martin Perez because he is extremely immature and can't control his emotions on the mound. It's ridiculous. It's like he's a damn child. Even Eric Nadel has ragged on Perez for not controlling his emotions. If you're a pitcher, errors are going to happen behind you. Bad calls go against you. Sometimes you will be required to get 4 or 5 outs in one inning. It happens. But you cannot pout and then use it as an excuse to let the game go completely. And that is exactly what he did.

Lastly, I never said the offense should totally get a pass. Tonight has been brutal. But they haven't been the problem over the last 6-8 games.

Isn't also immature of hitters to mail it in if a pitcher pitches into an early deficit? Is it only immature one way or both ways?

Runs still count no matter how you get them. Even if you say they only scored 36 and not 45 "real" runs, that's still 4 runs per game. That isn't bad at all.

He has regressed in both AAA and here if I remember correctly. Whatever he accomplished before is great to remember, but for some reason he is not that pitcher any longer. I don't know if it had something to do with him being told to strike more people out or what, but something is wrong this year for him. Same with Nick. They should not have been in the rotation at this point to me. That is on JD and Banny and the organization.

Chi Chi threw the most pitches in 4.2 innings since 2004.

Now you're reaching. I NEVER said hitters mail it in. What Martin Perez did is the equivalent to Josh Hamilton going up to bat, swinging carelessly at the 3 first pitches he sees, and then smiling on his way back to the dugout. THAT is mailing it in.

Perez throws tantrums, pouts, and just quits on his team when things don't go his way. I'm not saying the hitters are intentionally quitting. I'm saying it's harder to stay positive and think you're going to dig out of a hole when you're down huge early in a game. It affects your spirit.

Which do you think is more demoralizing, being down by 5,6,7, etc. runs early or having a teammate cost you an extra run or two due to an error? Which is easier to come back from?

Jared Hoying warming up in bullpen. could be second time in six games that a position player pitches. Both came in a Chi Chi start.
