Will some teams pay more than others sure, but 6 times more is a big reach. I see you mention ARod, but you have to also factor in Football rosters are 53 deep, while baseball is 1/2 that.

Why is 6 times a reach. ARod made more then entire rosters. That's like 25 times the amount. 6 is conservative.

Again, what interests you in making a 32 team league to a 3 or 4 team league? Dynasties are still possible if built perfectly. In your world it will go from a dynasty built perfectly into a dynasty that was just bought.

But it's also about revenue streams. With the NFL, with true revenue sharing, everybody gets an 'equal' piece of the TV contract pie. But teams aren't that way in other sports. So let's take that A-rod deal. I was actually living in Dallas at that time, AND ironically enough, working for Fox. So while 250 million seemed like an absurdly large amount of money, just a few months earlier, Fox REGIONAL (not even Fox national) had signed a 400 or 500 million deal with the Rangers to broadcast their baseball games. So essentially the short-sighted Hicks gave half of that money to one player.

The economics of large market TV allowed that to happen. Nobody is lining up to give the Brewers or Pirates or Diamondbacks half a billion to broadcast their REGIONAL games.

So you have have's and have not's. Tiers of teams.

The NFL was smart enough to realize that they needed to share out TV money equally. That and the cap make all small market teams instantly competitive. Some can't get past their own ineptness, but they're not operating with one hand tied behind their backs, like most of baseball.

THey are still under the cap. Locking up your top players is stupid?
Overpaying them is. Cox isn't as bad as the Bradford deal, but they still gave out way too much guaranteed money.

Looking at the details, he's really only guaranteed 46 mil, not 63. By the time he hits that 43 it will be time to either extend or leave Philly.

Because 6 times more is a whole hell of a lot of money. Again some teams will out spend others but not at the rate you say.

That's what you're not getting. It doesn't 'forgive' them for their sins. It keeps them from making even bigger mistakes that would do even more damage. That's what it is. Damage control. It saves the owners from themselves.

Now if that was the ONLY benefit, then I'd probably be with you.

But it's not. It keeps small market teams artificially competitive. Which is why Jerry hates it.

Sins, more damage, potayto potatto....

They absolutely will pay more then 6 times as much. Remember when A-Rod made more then 3 or 4 teams entire roster. Would happen in football. An uncapped football would iinstantly kill the Chiefs, the Chargers, the Packers, the Saints, Buffalo, the Jags, the Titans, the Colts.

The only reason your anti cap is because your team is one of the big 5. It would absolutely ruin football. If you happened to be a fan of any of the teams I listed you'd NEVER see 5 win seasons

I know SFA about A-rod.

And the increment wouldn't be instantaneous.

It would be gradual. Owners aren't stupid. Or are they....

Kill the cap....

I hate free agents. I hate players who sign a contract and then want to re-do it.

Who is this A-Rod...?

This is my thought as well. I honestly as a Bronco fan was happy when this Cox deal happened because I do think it speeds things up a bit. Instead of Elway having some ground to stand on that he should stick with his $39.5 million in fully guaranteed money this contract just helps push the issue all the more that the Broncos need to guarantee that 3rd year. Just where the market is heading with these top players. Honestly now that this Cox deal is done it wouldn't surprise me if Elway and Von get something done in the next week or two. I don't think this deal takes clear up until July 15th to get done.

I also agree I don't think Miller is out to gouge the Broncos. I don't see him being that guy. He knows to keep the team competitive it is best for him to not completely destroy the cap. When he and Elway already agreed on the overall value of the contract it showed he is good with making just a hair more than Suh. He doesn't want the $3-4 million per year more than the next highest paid guy kind of deal.

In this deal...Miller is on a far better team obviously and if Elway comes back and meets what he wanted, this deal should get done. One thing I've learned from the handful of pro athletes that I've met...they don't like uprooting and moving anymore than we do.
Possible true but pay him now at that amount or pay him later at possibly a higher amount. Either way, Cox was going to get paid by the Eagles or someone else willing to jump in.

I think they could've satisfied him (particularly right now) with less money, but at the same time I admit that's debatable. Agree 100% with your last point.

Right which is why they are usually willing to give what most would call a hometown discount. Better for the player to stay in a situation that they know instead of having to hit the reset button and for many of them it is best for their family as well to not be moving all the time. I honestly feel for those players that every single season are moving on. Just can't be the healthiest of situations to not know whether where you are is where you will be in a week. Like I said I think if Elway comes with a deal that is comparable to that of Cox and Dareus and those kind of guys that Miller will sign on the dotted line.

I have no vested interest in the Von Miller contract, but based on what has been put out there, I fully expect them to get a long term deal done before July 15th...if Elway was indeed trying to dig into his offer position...the market has changed already.

Eagles...they jumped the gun with the value of that deal...basically paying him like Watt...while very talented, he's not at Watt's level yet.

I gave you an example of a player in baseball that made more then ENTIRE teams. One player made more then 25 players combined. Sounds completely legit to me.

Why, the owners never honor contracts. Why should the players only be accountable? So that's the reason you'd want to instantly kill 2/3 of the league... Because you hate FA. Players have to stay where they are drafted for there entire career and get no say over their lives.

I never said that. I just dislike relying on free agents. They can go wherever they wish once the contract is up, I just wouldn't pursue them.

Owners have to honour contracts. Unless they cut the guy. Unless I'm mistaken.

And sometimes if the guy under performs like Amendola did they may ask him to take a cut rather than get cut if he wants to stay.

Either way, Kill The Cap.

OK, how many players are on NFL rosters vs. MLB. How many home games are played in each.
I can see some teams definitely out spending others, just noto 6 times more.
I can already see this turning into another never ending argument, but I just think you pulled that 6 times number out of thin air.

They have to honour contracts UNLESS they cut the guy.

Think about that for a moment.

C'mon Hank.

Sometimes I think you've gotta' be trolling with shit like this.

CUTTING THE GUY MEANS THEY'RE NOT HONORING THE CONTRACT!!!!
