That was quite a unit of entertainment. I hesitate to call it a hockey game, though. A few thoughts;

1) Do Pens fans really not see why the a large portion of the rest of the league thinks Crosby is a whiny little shit? I get that you want the bravado and the opportunity to say "suck it haters, you jes' jelly", but to throw a tantrum like that after that love tap from Ovi shows a lot about him (especially in light of harder dirty shots others took). Seriously, if one of my bantam age kids hit me like that in practice, I would laugh at them and tell them to hit the gym. Then the flop in the third period. It's annoying because he is an immense talent. He doesn't HAVE to do that shit.

2) Conversely, OV needs to just keep an extra supply of batteries in his pocket. So many times his controller disconnected. If either one would just fucking play every shift the way someone like Joel Ward does...

3) After the end of the third I asked my son what he thought of Matt Murray. He said "his best weapon is the other team isn't getting good shots off. " Thought about it, he's kind of right. On most of the "unbelievable saves" he made, the shots weren't that great - bouncing pucks, sticks in lanes, off balance shooters. For example, if Oshie isn't on one knee he buries that and laughs like the smug bastard he is. Murray was off center, falling forward and off his skates. Murray's puck tracking is a bit wonky too. He follows with his neck, and his shoulders take a moment to catch up. I will just say he's damn lucky to have that mobile D in front of him. And that the games are so tightly checked. A run and gun game, I feel like he'd get torched.

4) I fucking love Daley. Like seriously, will you trade him to us?

the only one I'm going to address (because we're out to sea and I haven't seen a single minute of any of the games :pout:), but NO! I love this guy and I couldn't believe it when he fell to us. I don't know what the deal was in Dallas (FUCK 'EM) or Chicago and I don't care. I'm just glad he's in Pitt now.

1) I don't think they care because he's the best player in the game and he plays for their team.

2) Don't expect a superstar to change his ways after ten years in the game. He is what he is.

3) He can only save the shots he faces.\

4) Maybe they'll take Tyutin for him?

I love how Sid slamming his stick, off ice on the way to the dressing room after getting a slash on his hand, is whining! Seemed like frustration to me that he had to go off ice for treatment. LOL...Haters gonna hate...

SUCK IT PENS' FANS!!!!

Pens won't be in this series... Caps gonna take it in 5.

You can tell me I'm wrong. The Flyers' fans sure did.

Your team's defense is fucking awful.

We're taking this one. Pretty weak comeback, bitch.

You don't sound confident.

I already know. Your asses are done.

Me too, because it's the first of four games we will win in this series to end your playoffs.

That's a factual observation, Vadered. Not trash talk. ;)

The temper tantrum doesn't bug me because that's pretty typical for an athlete who thinks they may have just had their season ended. After the game he said he's fine with the slash because it happens a million times a game, just happened to hit him in a worrisome spot. The flop? Well...it drew a penalty with three minutes left in a tie game. So that won't bug me much, except that it's a moot point with the Pens PP right now. Overall, he's really not much more of a primadonna than any other star in the league. I'd loathe playing against him and absolutely get why other fan bases are annoyed by him, though. And Daley has been an absolute champ. He stepped up last night and played more minutes than he probably ever has. Guy had 20 in two periods. Also he's just so happy.

Not sure why I am jumping in here, but to summarize:
  • Temper tantrum - immature child, and thats OK.
  • Diving - End justifies the means, cuz its MY team
  • Primadonna - Everyone else is, too.

FWIW, that's just blind, homer talk.

What I love about this is that Don is unknowingly aligning himself with fancy stats when discussing Calgary and the Avs.

Don doesn't discriminate, he'll use any argument and any data he can as long as the conclusion is "I told you so!"

1) I think you have to be kidding. If anything, Sid has been the most composed this post-season I've ever seen him. Players are in his face all the time and he's just skating away. And of all the things to call him on, you're calling him on that Ovi slash? The one where he went to the lockerroom, missed a few shifts, and couldn't take a faceoff when he came back? You think he *faked* all that just for the televisions? I don't know what to say. Or the fact that he shook his hand around? I feel like that's a pretty natural reaction when you jam a finger, I know I do it, and I've seen other NHLers do it too. I just don't know why that bothered you so much.

And yes, it was a minor tap from Ovechkin, but sometimes those get you the wrong way. We've seen it before. For the record, here was Sid's comment (omg such a whiner):

ChqfT_cUkAA5m00.jpg

As for the penalty at the end, since he clearly got a stick to the face, I assume you're calling him out on the fact that he went down? Even you want to insist that was an embellishment, fine, but you can easily find GIFs or vines or Ovechkin, Giroux, Lundqvist, etc... doing similar and worse. For some, more often. I'm not a fan, but I also don't know how some people continue to single out Sid.

I understand he rubs guys the wrong way, and I think even Pens fans will concede that he had some moments scattered through his first few years that didn't look good on him. But that's a lot to hang onto. In the era of GIFs and vines, the way most opposing fanbases talk you'd think there was a half dozen clips of Sid diving or whining every game. Yet for the most part, you see him (in this playoffs at least) just skate away. On the spectrum of players who chirp each other, or yap at the ref, he's pretty middle of the pack these days.

2) I don't think he's been bad.

3) The things most Pens fans I've talked to love the most about Murray is his mental fortitude. He let in a bad goal against Beagle, but it didn't phase him. Nothing phases him. He doesn't get rattled. Ovechkin has been getting in his face all series and he doesn't blink. That's what I like the most. In terms of his technique, I can't judge like you can, but he's been having pretty steady and consistent success in the AHL and his short stint in the NHL, so there must be something there. I'm sure there are things to work on, but he'll have time.

One comment I heard is that he's "great at reading developing plays". The reason he's looked good on some breakaways is because he seems to be pretty good at predicting what's open to the player and what they might go for. Obviously all goalies do this, but I've heard this from multiple goalie commentators, so there must be something to it. The flip side, is that he can get caught cheating, as you've seen. I think of Oshie's goal, on the assist from OV, where Murray clearly though Oshie was going to bring the puck to his forehand and left the five-hold wide open.

4) Yes. Completely turned around our season. It's crazy how three players you wouldn't really pick out - Daley, Cullen and Hagelin - have completely revitalized the Pens, but it's true. Daley has been amazing.

No, you cannot have him. Lovejoy? :noidea:

This was supposed to be the Caps year. What will the excuse be for not getting it done if they lose one more game to Pittsburgh?

A curse.

Seriously, though, we've heard all of the excuses before. I really don't want to hear them again. If they don't come back, then they just didn't play well enough. :noidea:

As good as Murray has been he's considered the backup. Heck, Letang didn't play in Game 4 & Matta has been out as well. There really aren't any excuses for the Caps. I thought Pittsburgh would be able to score in this series, but I didn't expect their defense & goaltending to play as well as they have in this series.

I hope the Pens chase Holtby in game 5. I want this to be certain. I'm too nervous with all the Caps' talent.

Also, I have what I think is a pretty clever victory post to make. I want to make that victory post. I don't want to make it prematurely, though, and be made to look like a fool. We all know what sort of track record NostraDarkstone has.

I'd say you've pretty much put yourself in the same position by telling us this though, even though you didn't reveal the statement.
