Well Crap. I wish it had gotten done but yeah can't give away too much draft capital. Still have to be able to build the team through the draft.

Agreed. I was excited by the prospect of adding Thomas, but not at too high a price. Good news is that the offensive line looks to be getting better the last couple of weeks.

That is the great thing is the OL looks good. The LT spot though still seems to be the major weakness of the group. The one big hit the Packers got on Manning was when Julius Peppers went around Ryan Harris. Would have definitely loved the upgrade at the position. I would honestly say with Sambrailo out now that the LT spot is our biggest weakness on the entire team. Thankfully the team can do some things to help protect with moving a RB or TE to that side to help out some. With the others really stepping up their game it allows you to do a bit more that way.

Per sources, potential deal of Joe Thomas from Cleveland to Denver broke down over draft-pick compensation. Cap/time not problems.

Looks like Browns wanted a 1 and a 2 in upcoming draft. Too steep. Good job Elway.

Reading up today on just how close the deal was I can't believe it didn't get done. I think you give the teams another hour and good chance Joe Thomas is a Bronco right now. So sounds like the final understanding of the deal in place was the Broncos were going to give up a 2nd round pick in 2016 and a 1st round pick in 2017. The big hold up on the deal was what the Browns were going to give back. They wanted to give the Broncos Joe Thomas and a 5th round pick where the Broncos wanted a 3rd round pick. Both teams held their ground and unfortunately time ran out.

From the sound of things though the Broncos are not done in their pursuit of Joe Thomas. Good chance after the season is over the Broncos continue to call Cleveland and see what they want.

To get the best LT at age 30 over the difference between a 3rd or 5th?. A Clev third is pretty much a Denver 2nd so does Elway really think he could get Thomas for a low 1st. I applaud him for trying to fleece Browns but Browns dealt for a position of power. Elway should have pulled the trigger if that was truly the deal in place.

I believe the Broncos - will pull this trigger next year - especially if Manning retires.

Looking at our Cap situation I definitely could see the Broncos pulling the trigger in the off season. Good chance Manning and Clady both are off the books after this season.

I've been thinking about this quite a bit and will give a more in depth look at our situation as we get into the off season but just a quick run down (my quick is a bit different than most though)

Good chance we have a $3-4 million to carry over to next year.

Let's say the cap goes up to $150 million. That would mean we have close to $20 million in cap space with 33 players under contract with the carry over. Like I said good chance both Manning and Clady both gone. That would give us an extra $29 million in cap space bringing our total to around $49 million. Now that would bring us to only 31 contracts though. We then would have 6 players on RFA/ERFA contracts that would be very cheap. So let's say around $43 million after all those are deducted (haven't taken the time to see what those are worth these days). We also even after the trades will have something like 10 draft picks. That total is usually around $5 million for those players bringing us to $38 million with 47 players under contract. Most likely 3-4 of those do not make the 53-man roster. So that would mean somewhere in the 8-10 players needed in FA to fill out the roster with $38 million to do it with. That is where Elway and company can get pretty creative contract wise. They honestly could sign just about anybody they wanted to with that type of money and that is even with signing Von Miller to a record setting contract.

If Manning could continue to play like he did last Sunday against the Packers, does anyone think he and the Broncos agree to have him stick around for the final year of his contract? I'm guessing the answer to that question is directly related to how this season ends. Superbowl? Ousted in the playoffs? Will be interesting to see how this chapter unfolds or ends.

I think how PFM health holds out as well as results after season. Even Kubes/Manning relationship will factor into 2016. QB situation. I hope we move on in 16 myself but, I trust John to make right decision.

If DEN wins the SB and PM is the starting QB throughout...I think they will leave it up to him and I think Manning will go out on top...if it's another loss but he plays well, I can see both sides spinning the wheel one more time...if they lose and he doesn't play well, I think Elway will turn the page.

Regardless of what happens during the remainder of the 2015 season, I think it is safe to say that we've seen the last of Ryan Clady in a Bronco uniform

The pursuit of Thomas I think makes that pretty clear. The fact that we have been doing this for months I think shows Elway realizes that Clady just isn't the player that he was. The only way Clady is still a Bronco is if he takes a huge pay cut. Maybe does a Manning type move of taking an incentive heavy contract. My guess though is he is gone just with the lack of trust that he makes it through an entire season. So sad to see such a promising career derailed by injuries.
