Is it just me, or are kickers shittier than usual?

14 missed fgs this week. Not including those that did not count such as the kick in San Diego

I just saw the video of the Saints missed FG at the end of regulation, how the fuck do you miss a 30 yard FG? That's actually closer now than an XP I don't understand these kickers. They literally have 1 job and it seems like half of them actually suck at it.

Mother Marge made a good point about the Ghost kicker in NE. Last week he broke the record for consecutive extra points with 450+ or some huge number like that, which includes the long ones this year. And he misses very few FGs. Do your job is hugely exemflified by this top caliber player that no one talks about. People still reference Adam V as great kicker for the Pats. Ghost is better ... Do your job!

I agree, the Broncos have been fortunate enough that Brandon McManus has turned his career around after he struggled with accuracy last year. He's always had one of the strongest legs in the NFL but now he's super accurate too(only kicker with multiple kicks of 55+ this year and still at 100% in FG percentage.)

I do kinda feel like its possible that we are going to have a year where someone makes a clutch late drive in the playoffs to tie the game up in the 4th quarter except that the kicker will choke on the extra point. Someone is going to lose like that and its going to be ugly.

This was a monumentally bad weekend for kickers. Josh Scobee is out of a job.

Its what kickers do:suds:

Through the first four weeks of the season, kickers have made 83.6 percent of their field goals, which is only slightly lower than through Week 4 last year (84.7 percent) and a tad better than 2013 (82.7).

Big difference is XP is no longer automatic:suds:

Frankly, I love it. I love the unpredictability now when teams line up for a kick, whether it's an extra point or a field goal.

Teams put more of an emphasis on touchbacks than FG accuracy. The Chargers cut Nick Novak, one of the most accurate kickers in the league, because his kickoffs were weak. His replacement, Josh Lambo, gets more touchbacks, but missed a 39-yard game winner yesterday. Fortunately they were playing the Browns, and he made the 34-yarder after their offsides penalty.

This is interesting.

During Week 4, kickers were 57-of-71 (80.3 percent). And so far in 2015, kickers are 198-for-237 on field goals. That’s an 83.5 percent conversion rate. Those figures are down from the cumulative performance produced by place-kickers in 2014, when the league’s specialists hit on 84.7 percent of their field goal attempts.

That’s certainly a decline, but it’s not much of one. Kickers were actually worse through the first four weeks of the 2013 season, hitting on 82.7 percent of their field goal attempts. As recently as 2010, they were all the way down at 78.9 percent through those first four weeks. Our standards for kickers are a lot higher these days: 83.6 percent is the sixth-best cumulative performance through the first four weeks of the season since the merger in 1970.

Week 4 Wrap: The Haves vs. the Have Nots

I would have expected much worse numbers from kickers this year.

Kickers Are Forever

That's true, but I do wonder if we're about to hit a slump. Looking at the college game, it appears like it. But, it could just be my own bias. I am an Alabama fan after all.

Let's be honest here... In the College game how frequently are kickers even used? Except for the xtra point?

I hate, hate, hate when teams play for the field goal at the end of a game when they still have time and downs left to try to score a TD. San Diego did that yesterday and it would have bitten them in the ass if Cleveland hadn't been Cleveland.

Small sample size. Kicking has been getting progressively better pretty much every year for decades
i'm not sure what the numbers show so far this year, but 25% of the year isn't a small sample size.
