14 missed fgs this week. Not including those that did not count such as the kick in San Diego
Mother Marge made a good point about the Ghost kicker in NE. Last week he broke the record for consecutive extra points with 450+ or some huge number like that, which includes the long ones this year. And he misses very few FGs. Do your job is hugely exemflified by this top caliber player that no one talks about. People still reference Adam V as great kicker for the Pats. Ghost is better ... Do your job!
I do kinda feel like its possible that we are going to have a year where someone makes a clutch late drive in the playoffs to tie the game up in the 4th quarter except that the kicker will choke on the extra point. Someone is going to lose like that and its going to be ugly.
I've never seen so many missed field goals, particularly short ones.
This was a monumentally bad weekend for kickers. Josh Scobee is out of a job.
Kickers Are Forever
That's true, but I do wonder if we're about to hit a slump. Looking at the college game, it appears like it. But, it could just be my own bias. I am an Alabama fan after all.
Teams put more of an emphasis on touchbacks than FG accuracy. The Chargers cut Nick Novak, one of the most accurate kickers in the league, because his kickoffs were weak. His replacement, Josh Lambo, gets more touchbacks, but missed a 39-yard game winner yesterday. Fortunately they were playing the Browns, and he made the 34-yarder after their offsides penalty.
i'm not sure what the numbers show so far this year, but 25% of the year isn't a small sample size.Small sample size. Kicking has been getting progressively better pretty much every year for decades
