umpire help at the plate for the cards...all night long anything borderline a hair outside of strikezone was called balls for dodgers and strikes for cards...didn't see this kind of advantage in LA
Did you miss that last inning when Molina got called out on an obvious ball?

smart move by Metheny

It is up to the Dodgers to hit - Uribe and Ellis couldn't get it done

Uribe swung at a bad ball and Ellis wasn't patient enough

I agree it was a stall ploy but I have no problem with it
As I said I think it was a smart move by Metheny
You try to use every tactic in the postseason

I wouldn't have a problem with Mattingly pulling off something like that but I doubt he has that kind of outside-the-box managerial thinking

On paper, is Kershaw vs Miller one of the biggest mismatches of the past decade? NL MVP vs a 23yr old just above .500?

Cards had to win this game and thankfully did. That Dodgers bullpen is clearly their weak spot

That tactic really did piss me off but hey, they won the game. That's all Matheny and Molina give a shit about anyway, they're not here to make friends.

I don't disagree with your post, Mattingly has been outwitted by Matheny 2 years in a row so far. All the marbles going tomorrow, it's going to be a good one.

lol no it's not that bad at all. Miller is a great pitcher capable of shutting down any lineup. You act like hes a 4.50 type pitcher.

Have faith in your guy.

For a lot of the year, he was.

He developed a 2 seamer late in the year and had an ERA around 2.00 in the last month or so to lower his ERA a bit and the number of walks in way down as well. He basically only had one bad start in the last month and a half but that was also the last time he pitched. So that trend will carry through and he'll be good or it'll be something the Dodgers will look at and figure out and he will be a 4.50 type pitcher.

I do have hope just because the Cardinals have gotten to Kershaw and certainly the Dodgers bullpen (with its 8.00ERA in this series) but the Cardinals power streak probably isnt something that is sustainable so they need to get out of this series as quickly as possible.

A 98 ERA+ is great? The league ERA in the NL was 3.66.

He's certainly pitched better in the 2nd half (2.92 ERA and 54/19 K/BB in 74 innings) after having command issues in the 1st half (74/53 K/BB in 109 innings). But he's still not striking guys out, and seeing a 23-year-old's strikeout rate drop from 8.8 to 6.2 is alarming.
