@TepidP: Knebel has a closer's ceiling. Late-inning stuff/makeup. Thompson is a MORP for most, ceiling wise. Hope he joins Frisco, but MB is possible

That's what I thought. But most reports I saw have Jake's ceiling as a #2, and he'll most likely be a #3. Very happy with this though. I didn't really expect to get this type of haul for soria. Think we struck big here.

@JimBowdenESPNxm: Clearly a sellers market as Rangers do great in getting both Thompson and Knebel in Soria deal #ESPN

Gives me nightmares about the last " Thompson" traded to our team from Detroit. I'm shocked that Daniels dealt with Dombrowski so soon after the Fielder debacle. I'm not entirely convinced that there wasn't any foul play by the Tigers. They might've known about Fielders status.

Soria has only one mission. Beat Oakland in the playoffs!

They probably DID know. I don't think that's Dombrowski's fault. I think if you're gonna spend so much money on a player like Prince and trade a player like Ian, then you don't just give the dude a regular physical ESPECIALLY if he was noticably struggling. They should've done everything. Given him a full MRI or whatever was necessary. Its a business. JD could have checked every health precaution before inking. He didnt. Not saying it was necessary, but you cant blame Dombrowski for that.

And FWIW, everyone here knows I'm a huge JD fan. I just think he made a mistake with the Prince trade. It was the right idea, but for something of that magnitude I don't think you take any chances as far as health goes.

Sounds like JD made a damn nice trade again. Btw, as far as fielder goes, I still think he'll have some big seasons for us, and frankly if he's going to go down, it might as well be this one. Nice job JD and on to 2015

No need to let one deal get in the way of another.

Detroit's number 4 and number 6 prospects for soria. Both 22 and under. Not bad at all.

He'll definitely be on a mission next year, I bet.

With my understanding of this procedure and anatomy given my field of work, and the research I've done, I feel very confident that he'll be ready to rock next year. To be perfectly honest unless JD makes a couple moves for pitching next year I'm not sure we'll vie for a title in 2015. Anyone know what the FA pitching market looks like?

I will have to trust the talking heads that say these are legit prospects. Easier to know when it is major league talent, but if at least one of them is solid it will end up being a good deal in the long run. Not exactly a blockbuster, but those trades can sometimes pay dividends later. Trading Gagne to Boston didn't seem like much at the time but David Murphy did have some special moments in his Texas career. Hopefully one of these guys can do more than Murphy and find a home here.

Scherzer will most likely cost way too much. Shields is a guy we need to take a serious run at.

I said it last offseason and I'll say it again... I think Gallardo is better than his stats indicate
