This just goes to show what you know about good coaching.
What would you know 70s and 80s bball? You probably weren't even born then, sonny!

Here's the issue that some of us are having with you. Everyone and their brother knew that Lebron or 'Melo going ANYWHERE other than the Cavs and Knicks was a longshot. I'm not even convinced that Lebron was THAT torn about returning to Miami. It wasn't about the Lakers, NO ONE had a real shot at landing either of them. Yet, you want to blame the Lakers FO because they didn't get at least one of them, when no one else was going to. When FA started, the Lakers were given something like a 3% chance at getting 'Melo. Before it was over, they were the biggest threat to stealing him from NY. In the end, he chose to stay home and collect the additional $30 million. Can't blame him for that.
As Kobe said, "they gave it their best effort and that's all that I can ask".
It's not that 2nd tier FA's didn't want to come to L.A. It's that they wanted more in terms of money and/or length of contract than the Lakers were willing to pay or players they didn't want, so they moved on. Ask yourself this, How pissed would you be if the Lakers got players that can get them a first or second round playoff exit and then didn't have the cap space to "bag an elephant or two" because of those 2nd tier guys?
Also, the off-season isn't over and the Lakers are starting to get a bit of a logjam at PF. Some are starting to say that Mitch may have a trade in mind. We'll have to see what happens. Worst case, if this team as constructed stays healthy, they are competitive, flirt with a playoff berth and settle in around .500. Not what any of us want, but better than last season. Then they go into the next off-season with lots of money available.
If, as some believe, the bigger FA's from 2015 end up not being available, that's when you go after the 2nd tier guys. Nash's $9 million will be off the books and Kobe will be in the last year of his $48 million deal.
So basically wlk holds a grudge against the Lakers' FO because he has to buy a hat...
I'd hate to lose Randle if any trade involves him. Watched him in summer league and the kid is as talented a big with his size and nimble feet as I've seen. But if it should bag us Love well then hello KLove...
I rather keep Randle, we don't know if Love would re sign with the Lakers if he were to come to LA this season. If Love were to walk away it would be a disater. I've had enough of that already.
No I'm not saying that at all... I'm saying the opposite... I'm saying they shouldn't have even tried, for the very reasons you posted... It should have been here is our goal, here is what we plan to do to get there, now let's go... That's how the Lakers of old were run, at least that's how I remember it being... It wasn't let's see what happens and hope we can do this... Which is why I'm saying trades you can't predict what a free agent will do but you can make it in their best interest to go with you since you know where you're going... If you're saying it's better to say "hey it's your team, tell us what you want" who's going to respect you...?
Especially when other teams have better situations for you to step in to...
No, I made reference to my hat and league pass to show though I can't go to the games because I live in Mississippi now, I still support the team... And because of that little contribution, I should be allowed to speak my mind on what concerns me... But if you want to buy it for me this year please do... With tax and shipping it comes out just under $40 bucks...

As for "Hey, it's your team". I don't think it was about that for the Lakers, it was about the Lakers saying they'll listen and that player can have input. They're not going to let any player come in and be the GM like the Cavs are with Lebron.
I took it to mean more like what they do with Kobe. Kobe's wishes are more of a "tiebreaker". Example is the coaching search. Kobe has said he wants Byron. If the FO wants Byron too, he'll be hired. If they think someone else would be better, they'll go with him. If they consider 2 candidates to be equal, then Kobe's wishes would tip the scale.
Revisionist history. Simple review of the Shaq - Kobe era will show that Kobe had as much if not more power than Lebron.......and still does as the highest paid guy. Reality is best served with clear lenses
Next season is gonna be rough for both LA and Boston once again. Lin and Boozer this off season? This doesn't make sense...why take on Lin's awful contract for a late 1st round pick?
Looks like Lin's deal ends after next season. I thought he had 2 years left...so not a bad move by LA.
