It's strange you mention this. B/C I keep wondering why the "word is" Gallo won't be a 3rd baseman at the next level, meaning bigs, yet we keep playing him there.

But maybe, if he can hit 35+ dingers and be fair at 3rd, we'll take it. Perhaps that's all we're trying to develop him in to is a average 3rd baseman with Mike Schmidt power. Personally, I can live - quite happily - with this.

Like I said, probably seeing the same thing we are with Beltre and hoping for the best.

Hopefully part of the offensive struggles we've seen has been partly due to lack of chemistry. This is a pretty different team than even last year.

Fielder and choo in the lineup.
No Kinsler, no Soto, no Gentry, no Cruz. Our second base and catcher position has been a turnstile. Profar is out. The top of the order is so different. I know when it comes down to it, it's the hitter versus the pitcher but there is a human element of chemistry and comfort on any team.

Hopefully the chemistry is coming around and their best baseball is ahead of them. Wouldn't that be something?

:suds:......indeed it would. I for one ain't ruling it out either. Seriously, I'm not.

We've got Prince for a decade, at least from a contractual standpoint.

OK....this is hindsight. But I wonder now why we didn't look at Odor at 2nd, Profar at 3rd, with AB at first going forward; like in 2015/16 instead of what we've done.

Hindsight withstanding.

If we are to get the most out of Beltre's bat at the end of his contract it's going to involve him being moved to dh or his legs won't hold up for much of the last season or so. Moving him to first still takes a pretty big toll on his legs.

What about teaching MM to play 3B over next spring? Would this even work- permitting of course MM is the best option?

I don't see MM as the best option in any scenario to play third.

Yeah, I probably under estimate the wear & tear on the legs at 1st. So this means, at least to me, next season is AB last as our 3rd baseman. We need to start transitioning him to DH no later than next season. I've got no problem with this actually.

It's a sad and bad scenario if you do IMO.

But I can see how someone could think this makes sense really. Just it doesn't fit is all. MM is a wounded moose at 3rd.

Yeah... you don't typically want a lefty at 3B in the first place... just throwing somethings out there to see if they stick. Just wonder what his role is going to be next year. I'm sort of with you all on Beltre maybe moving to DH next season. Who knows though maybe he won't.

Gallo won't have the range to play an adequate 3B long term, as he's probably going to get even bigger as he ages

He's probably going to be a RF/1B long term

I think they're letting him stay somewhere he wants and is comfortable while he develops his bat, thats all, once he gets to AA that starts to change

I can't believe it was even suggested as a possibility to teach MM 3rd base. RangerDude knows better than that, I hope. He's left-handed.
