I agree, I would be more interested in getting a few multi year starters rather than getting 7 or 8 guys that are band aids and not much better than what we have at their respected positions.

3 starters and a couple more depth players, that's what I would like to see.

Let's just' get C type free agents because heavan forbid we get 2 or 3. Big time free agents. That would be horriable.

If you get 2 or 3 big time free agents, we are done in free agency. We have cap room, but not a ton. Suppose we bring in Decker, Byrd and Joseph, does that really help this team?

Thats what I am not understanding with some posters here. I don't think you all understand how terrible this team really is. We were the 2nd worst team in the NFL and 3 top FA are going to come in here and turn it around? If we were a playoff team, then yes, 3 top tier FAs would put you over the top. We have one of the worst rosters in the league and little to no talent and some of you think 3 FAs will turn the ship around?

Our goal should be to address as many holes as possible and acquire more talent. As such, we should spread our cap room and around and bring in mid-level free agents while continuing to build through the draft.

Again, posters and Skins fans always think we are a step away from winning the Super Bowl when in reality, we are a step away from being the worst team in the NFL. We are closer to a 2-14 team by far than a 14-2 team and some of you want to blow all of our cap room on 3 FA? Can someone explain this to me? I must be missing something. 3 top FAs will maybe get us 2 more win tops. If you goal is to get 5 wins a year, then by all means, lets take this approach and complain the entire year.

If we had ANY starting quality ILBs under contract I might agree with you. But I dont think you cut off your nose to spite your face. While you might be right and he never amounts to more than simply solid. right now i think it hurts the team less to simply pay Riley and not create the hole. Two new starting ILBs in a 3-4 defense hardly ever works out. And lets face it, if the defense fails again we likely waste two seasons because if the defense isnt atleast decent this year, Haslett gets fired, we start all over and then no telling what we will get going forward.

I just don't buy this train of thought. It begs of desperation and I don't do desperation. I'd rather have a hole in the defense than a pain in our cap.

As for Haslett, do you have any hope for him this coming season?

Well maybe I am naive in thinking that we are not as bad as our record indicated last year. Don't forget we made the playoffs and won the division the year before with essentially the same roster.

I don't know the specifics of our cap space or what some of these FAS will command, just saying that IMHO adding 5-7 guys that are not even considered a Top 15-20 FA at their position this year does not help this team. You are just cutting players that are marginally talented for well... Players who are marginally talented.

Shark I'm not saying go all out'like we'did back then I'm just saying we need to get 2 to 3 top freeagents then focus'on your C grade el cheapo types

2 or 3 top free agents is also known as 2 or 3 overpriced free agents. I still remember the year we signed Brandon Lloyd, Antwan Randel El, and Adam Archuleta...Super Bowl....PUKE.

Byrd is the only player in FA that truly deserves to get the pay day coming to him. He's top two at the position, not top two at the position in FA. Top players don't make it to FA...their teams resign them or franchise tag them...as evidenced by Byrd. The only problem, they can't tag Byrd again.

We have a lot of youth on this team we need to find out about. So signing a high-priced (not high talent) FA pretty much seals a young players fate. If you sign cheaper free agents, guys that have underperformed draft position, then you have our youth compete with them as starters but either way, we get quality depth out of it.

We can always use that 2nd round pick on the best ILB?

Furthermore, this is a process... I would rather resign Riley, and add in 5 or 6 day one quality starters (not band aids) via the draft and FA and build on that. Next year we do the same. You can't overhaul the entire team in one season, it rarely works that way.

Is it not desperation to assume that ANY thing we sign would be better than what we already have?? Or the concept that any DC brought in would automatically be better?? As for having any hope for Haslett. I dont think its a good idea to set the man up for failure yet again and expect any different result. And i think as many as six new starters on defense is a setup for failure.

Except that quite a few are hell bent on using that 2nd rounder on a WR.

FA will dictate what we do in the draft.

The only ILB who could be there in the 2nd that would start for us is Shaizer from Ohio St.

IF they aren't there they get a ILB in the 4th or 5th rounds. Barrow or Mcclough. If WR is not addressed in FA then its becomes the #1 need in the draft.

We have a winner. Only one. And people want to count on using our 2nd on an ILB...what if Mosely and Shazier aren't there?

I agree, with Shazier a solid option as a 4-3 OLB, he still might not get to us. I don't think we can overlook this position in FA unless we feel like there is someone else on the roster that the team feels is capable of bent a starter. I don't think that guy is there. Now as Shark has stated, if Riley gets away and we have to depend on a FA and a drafted player playing there, the middle is in trouble.

Every year, there is an older player that signs cheaply for a team. Last year it was Daryl Smith and there was another one at ILB. Don't panic...don't overpay.
