All Alabama games must be called, without exception, by Vern and Gary.

This.

One of the stupidest rules on the books.

OT: I'm torn about your avatar. On the one hand, I like it. On the other hand, I keep thinking you are someone else, some Oregon fan or something.

I lost a bet. I know it's rough punishment, but I think I can suffer through it.

The rule stating that all teams start at the opponent's 25 yard line at the start of each OT possession needs to be changed. They should start at their own 25 yard line imo. If they want to get into scoring position, make them work for it.

The "6 wins required for a bowl game" rule. Teams with 6-6 records have absolutely no business even being considered for a bowl game, let alone being in one.

I don't like not rewarding defensive effort. It's a needless advantage to the offense, in my opinion.

What advantage?
If the ball goes out of bounds anywhere else on the field, the offense keeps the ball.
This keeps in line with that, and doesn't crazily give the defense an advantage. The defense did NOT take possession of the ball or push the entire offense into their own End Zone.. They shouldn't get the ball.

Change the OT to reflect the NFL's playoff OT rules.
Each team's offense gets a chance at the ball unless the team who gets the ball first scores a TD.

CFB OT is mindbungling stupid, and the fact that the yards and points count is DUMBBUMFUCK stupid.

I find it far more fair than the NFL, although the new NFL rules are more fair than before. What's wrong with both teams getting a chance to score? By giving any advantage to the team that wins the coin toss, you are letting a coin toss decide your game, at least in part. In college, both teams are treated fairly.

Having typed that, I suppose the team that wins the toss gets to defer to see what the other team does and there is some level of advantage to that. But that is a lesser evil than the NFL where you can lose without ever getting a chance to score.

.

Some teams have good defenses that are not so good in the red zone. Why punish them?
Some teams have ok offenses but are really good in red zone. Why help them out?

They are treated the same, not fairly.

in soccer, both teams are treated the same in their ultimate OT [penalty shoot-out] but not fairly. The defensive team is at a great disadvantage to the team that has a few good strikers.

Soccer is more than just free kicking into a goal guarded by a goalie.

Football is about more than just red zone offense and defense.

Easier to understand?

The mention of Soccer makes your argument invalid by default.

You lost me when you tried to compare CFB to soccer.

Teams obviously have varying levels of defense and offense. That is what the game is all about, so that isn't an issue of fairness.

But, letting one team win a coin flip, drive the length of the field without letting the other team get an equal chance isn't fair. This fact isn't arguable (what they decide to do, of course is). I don't recall the exact percentage - hell, I'll look it up - looks like under the old NFL rule, the team that won the toss won 60% of the time. That was ridiculous to let a coin flip make that much of a difference. S they changed the rule and it is now down to 52.5% of the time (I'd like to see better stats - only consider those winning on the first drive), which is pretty close to even.

However, in college, both teams get the same chance to score. If they don't score that's on the team, not on the coin flip.

If you want to move the ball back, that'd be fine by me. My guess is there is a time element there, and they don't want games going another hour or more.

Things I'd change:

1. Targeting rule. At least get rid of the 15 yard penalty if overturned.

2. Stop counting FCS teams to be bowl eligible. Right now teams are allowed 1 FCS team to count towards being bowl eligible, make it 0 so teams stop scheduling them at all.

3. What someone mentioned about instant replay having more power. If you see another penalty on the replay, fucking call it. Sometimes the refs are like WWE refs with shit they don't see.

I'm not really sold on that though, too much like letting a replay decide whether the ump in baseball called the ball a strike or the strike a ball to me.

I can accept that. before the NFL changed their rules, i was lobbying for them to institute a "every offense gets a chance" system. i would like to see that... but I still think the current NFL system is better than CFB.

When you do your research, look up the era when the NFL kicked off from the 30 and not the 35... the team that won the OT coin flip won the game less than 55% of the time. It's not as bad as you think. Better than the CFB "penalty kick-esque" system.

I agree that the NFL system is way better today, so we probably agree more than we disagree. Maybe move it back to the 50 year line, so that they have to get into field goal range. But, both teams get the ball at least once. I am pretty confident that you won't see a full kickoff for OT ... just takes too much time. Remember that the NFL has a clock running while CFB doesn't.

Interesting subject, anyway.
